Hi, Just trying to understand the situation. Can anyone enlighten me? What exactly is he trying to do? And why do the regular Muslims mind? It seems he is just investigating to see if there are radicals in their community. I’m sure he’s not proposing to search any home with an Arabic name, so what do they care about? What do “Hearings” mean?

(The first time I heard he was going to be holding Hearings for possible Al-Quada involvement, I wanted to bring crackers and a L’Chaim to go with the Schmaltz. . .)

new2thescene; I don’t think you are THAT new. (To living on this planet Earth.) He wants to establish in “Open Court” what we all know.; 1) That the moslem “Imams” are preaching hatred for the US; 2)That the “Good” moslems are, for the most part, indifferent to the “bad” moslems and the acts of terror they plan to commit.: Stop being such a naive bleeding heart! ALL the terrorist acts of the past several years have EXCLUSIVELY been committed by muslims!!!

“ALL the terrorist acts of the past several years have EXCLUSIVELY been committed by muslims!!!”

This is, of course, not even a little true. (Jared Loughner’s back in the news and still not a Muslim, so let’s start with him.) I can’t speak for all Muslims, but I’m sure some because hearings like these will reinforce the impression that out-and-out falsehoods like the one written above are accurate.

new2thescene, maybe this will help you understand. Imagine it’s 40 years ago and Kahane and his JDL are putting bombs in Russian offices. Then a Congressman decides that he will investigate the entire Jewish community to see what’s going on. How would you like that?

Oh please, the UN and the Arabs blame Israel for everything. Thank G-d for Peter King. Let him put the screws to the Muslims. Lets be real for a change. Yes there are some good Muslims who appreciate living in this country, but there are crazy fanatics who are blowing us up and people and property around the world. They don’t care about lives, not their own and not ours. So lets be clear on this. Let not let our guard down. Lets NOT be so stupid and lets NOT be so PC, better to be realistic and safe.

Nobody really answered my question. I don’t care if what he is doing is right or wrong for right now. I just want a clear description as to what it is that he plans on doing?

And yes, I don’t think I would mind if he audits my Shul for tax evasion etc. . . Whatever they want as long as it’s legal.

His stated purpose was to discuss the radicalization of the Muslim American community—that is, how international terrorists recruit from among otherwise non-radical Muslims who are American citizens. Most of the hearing was absurd, as the highest priority seemed to be not to step on anyone’s toes and hurt anyone’s feelings. They really never got to a productive debate because of that. However, there was one testimony by a Muslim American representing a Muslim democracy group, who seemed to be speaking decently and knowledgeably and with first hand experience about how the terrorist groups collect supporters in America. And the other testimony from a Somalian was similarly intelligent. Most of the rest was a meeting about why they shouldn’t have this meeting.
