I see about 25 men, lots of chairs but not a single woman.
Methinks they put the wrong headline in.
🙂
May 29, 2014 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm #1018286dial427436MemberThey meant that 10,000 chairs attended the asifa?
May 29, 2014 4:23 pm at 4:23 pm #1018287a maminParticipantDon’t be ridiculous! Yeshiva World wouldn’t put in pictures of the women! There were 2 floors full with standing room only! Mi Kiamcha Yisroel!!
May 29, 2014 5:02 pm at 5:02 pm #1018289DaMosheParticipantChassidishe maaseh…
May 29, 2014 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm #1018290Bookworm120ParticipantIt could be that no photos were taken of the women presumably attending out of modesty, and the shots of the empty chairs were taken before the event started…. Or, maybe no women attended live and watched it streaming from their homes, presumably out of modesty.
May 29, 2014 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #1018291zahavasdadParticipant10,000 was unlikely. There is not building in Borough Park Big Enough to legally sit 10,000 people. They would have needed to be in a bigger venue like the Barclys , or the Garden. I dont even think the Brooklyn Armory can legally hold 10,000 people

Or maybe as the Gemorah in Nedarim says
????? ??? ???? ???? ???????? ??? ????? ???? ??? ???? ?????
So there were 10,000 bugs at the event (which is why no people showed up), and they called them “Women”. Maybe because they were female bugs (which is why they didn’t take pictures of the swarm 🙂
May 29, 2014 8:22 pm at 8:22 pm #1018294apushatayidParticipant“Yeshiva World wouldn’t put in pictures of the women!”
Probably not intentionally, but clearly there is no “moderator” of the photos that get posted online. Just scroll through some of the photo galleries.
May 29, 2014 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm #1018295🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantzahavasdad- it was done in a former warehouse with NYPD supervision. I’m pretty sure it was legal..
May 29, 2014 9:21 pm at 9:21 pm #1018296zahavasdadParticipantIts actually pretty simple to figure it out
Each chair is sbout 2 feet wide . 2 feet deep and you need another 2 feet in front of you for leg room meaning you need 8 Square Foot per person
Now multiply this by 10,000 chairs and you will get an idea how many square feet you need for the chair. Of course you actually need more space as you need aisles and room for the dias and the sound equipment
May 29, 2014 11:14 pm at 11:14 pm #1018297nishtdayngesheftParticipantZD,
Where do you find chairs 2 ft wide???
Your numbers are made up.
But anyway, I know of warehouses that are 350,000 square feet. That is 5 times larger than you need.
May 30, 2014 1:50 am at 1:50 am #1018298PulsingFlowerMemberI find it hilarious that showing pictures of members of half of the human race is considered a breach in tznius. These 10,000 women and for that matter, all 3.6 billion of them basically don’t exist. Makes perfect sense.
May 30, 2014 10:59 am at 10:59 am #1018299not a trollerMemberPF: Half the human race have different rules and regulations than the other half. That is true as a legal matter.
May 30, 2014 1:27 pm at 1:27 pm #1018300apushatayidParticipantthis is why there is a shidduch crisis. every time you see a mazel tov posted, you see pictures of men at the simcha, you see men given a mazel tov, no women. if perhaps we involved women in the process girls would get engaged too 🙂
May 30, 2014 1:29 pm at 1:29 pm #1018301apushatayidParticipantlets cut to the chase, instead of bickering about how many women may or may not have been at the asifa, where can those women who did not attend (my wife never even heard of it and we live less than 10 minutes from where it was held!!) the asifa get a copy of transcrips of the speeches, or a copy of the video, or at the very least someones summary of what was said?
May 30, 2014 7:23 pm at 7:23 pm #1018302a maminParticipantWhy so you could make fun of it?? Reading this thread doesn’t surprise me!
Anyone who wanted to attend was there ! There were 10,000 seats rented and all were taken on two floors with people standing as well!! If you need proof that’s your problem!! We were graced by the presence of many gedolim, I guess they thought there was a purpose….
May 30, 2014 8:00 pm at 8:00 pm #1018303OURtorahParticipantIm confused why people are questioning why women werrent pictured. According to the YWN it is not tznious to post picture of women. If you have a problem with rthat than dont read it because if youbwere expecting to open he article seeing women knowing you werent, thats wrong.
June 2, 2014 3:14 pm at 3:14 pm #1018304gavra_at_workParticipantOT: I think it is funny to show pictures of empty chairs (Just my opinion, but that’s what we are here for). Usually that is to show how an event was NOT well attended.
June 2, 2014 6:09 pm at 6:09 pm #1018305apushatayidParticipant“Why so you could make fun of it??”
Not sure if this is addressed to me, but this is a very defensive reaction. Why should I (or anyone else) make fun of it?
“Anyone who wanted to attend was there !”
That might be true. It doesnt address the fact that there are many women who didnt know about it in the first place. Those women are interested in a summary of who said what.
