A good example…Try to read this sentence 3 different ways .The word thats spaced should be emphasize..read that word slowly with a sigh.

Sam will be late at our meeting again.

Sam will be l-a-t-e at our meeting again.

Sam will be late at our meeting a-g-a-i-n.

How does it sound, same words but your tone of voice is what changes the meanings.

Now lets use the I statements see the difference.

You always take my book. You never ask permission .

I would like you to ask permission before you take my book.

You are mean and nasty for doing this.

I feel sorry if you think I am mean or nasty.

Can you stop acting like a baby.

I would like you to stop acting like a baby.

You never give me a chance.

I feel like I never get a chance.

When we attack like using the (you) they will defend and probably end up fighting.

When you use the (I) you help them understand how you feel and thats your right.. try it ..it works…

absan – stop insulting me. thanks. also mods i dont know how you allowed the posts to go through.

    #1171222

it went through because s/he wasn’t insulting you. Unfortunately, without proper punctuation it is more difficult to understand what was meant but it was supposed to be examples of how to say different statements.
