Is anyone familiar with an inyan of putting on one’s Talis and Tefillin outside of the shul, such as in the lobby or back room? I would think that to perform these Mitzvohs within the confines of a Bais Mikdash Me’at would be preferable. Is there a M’kor for this?
They put it on outside in my Yeshiva.
It’s brought down in Halacha to enter the Shul wearing Tallis and Tefillin. Why it’s not done more is an interesting question.
The Ben Ish Chai brings this inyan. If I remember correctly, there is a maila of entering the shul with talis and tefilin on.
I have never seen anyone put on tefilin outside of the sanctuary, but I have seen many put on tallessim on before entering.
what about before entering the ezras noshim?
Rabbi Poliakoff in his book “Minhagei Lita” mentions this minhag and relates that in Lita (or at least in Telz where he learned for many years) this practice was unheard of.
In truth, it is a befeirush Mechaber AND Rama, Orach Chaim 25:2.
I know many who practice it. Why don’t we all?
