Only two Sabbath keepers on the earth are left, Zebulon and Menashe. Zebulon leaves haAretz and leisurely travels west, keeping Shabbat every seventh day. Menashe leaves haAretz and leisurely travels east, keeping Shabbat every seventh day. They both travel around the world and meet again in haAretz; When do they keep Shabbat?

February 27, 2013 5:20 pm at 5:20 pm #933276SecularFrummyMemberI believe the Baal Hameor in Rosh Hashana discusses the “halachic international dateline” being 90 degrees of longitute from Jerusalem.
February 27, 2013 7:09 pm at 7:09 pm #933277Rav TuvParticipantOMG this is ridiculous. Of course they have the same day as shabbos. regardless of where you go every 7 days is shabbos so they are always keeping shabbos on the same day.
what do i win?
February 27, 2013 7:19 pm at 7:19 pm #933278Sam2ParticipantI believe the Yaavetz would say they keep Shabbos on different days, though it’s not precisely the same case. Rav Tzvi Pesach Frank would say that Shabbos stays the same in Israel no matter what.

February 27, 2013 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #933280midwesternerParticipantThere may be a machlokes where the International Date Line is. But pretty much everyone agrees that it exists. And if one goes 360 degrees, one will encounter it. Whether you go East and have 8 times netz and shkia, and give a day at the line, or you go West and have 6 times netz and shkia, and gain a day at the line, it will still add up to 7 if you go all the way.
