Less than a year after Chanuka, a holiday in which we celebrate victory against the Greeks, we publish a quote from a Greek guy in a frum magazine?
March 21, 2017 1:15 pm at 1:15 pm #1240818JosephParticipantWho said it’s a frum magazine (other than the publisher)?
March 21, 2017 1:18 pm at 1:18 pm #1240866zahavasdadParticipantSince when is it against Halacha to quote the Pythagoreom Theorom or discuss Euclidian Geometry

If it’s true, it doesn’t matter who said itMarch 21, 2017 1:33 pm at 1:33 pm #1240955👑RebYidd23ParticipantIf it doesn’t matter who said it, why mention the name?
March 21, 2017 1:59 pm at 1:59 pm #1240964misteryudiParticipantWould you be upset if there was a quote from a Rabbi in a Greek magazine?
If it’s truth, it’s truth.March 21, 2017 1:59 pm at 1:59 pm #1240960nishtdayngesheftParticipantקבל האמת מפי אומרו – רמב”ם
Can you tell me where the Rambam said this? It doesn’t sound like the lashon of the Rambam.
March 21, 2017 2:03 pm at 2:03 pm #1240971kollelmanParticipantקבל האמת ממי שאמרו
הובא בהקדמה לשמונה פרקיםOver there, the Rambam is specifically discussing learning from philosophers.
March 21, 2017 2:16 pm at 2:16 pm #1240987apushatayidParticipantAristotle offered advice on shidduchim (or do I have no idea what Tachlis magazine is)?
March 21, 2017 2:16 pm at 2:16 pm #1240991nishtdayngesheftParticipantSo I guess I was right. It did not sound like the lashon of the Rambam and it wasn’t.
I believe the Rambam says he sometimes quotes Aristotle.
March 21, 2017 2:33 pm at 2:33 pm #1241007kollelmanParticipantI don’t understand what you wrote. I was not precise with my quote, I quoted it properly in my second comment. The substance is remains the same. As Jews, we are not beholden to marginalize facts, just because we don’t approve of their author.
March 21, 2017 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #1241035Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantRY – I like your first clause in the OP. I think I will try to use that in the future. It works well for Yom Kippur in particular – “it’s less than a year since Yom Kippur and you’re already speaking Loshon Hora?!”
March 21, 2017 4:06 pm at 4:06 pm #1241124Avi KParticipantRambam also praised Galen as the greatest doctor of all time.
March 22, 2017 12:37 am at 12:37 am #1241376MRS PLONYParticipantWe won’t bring Tachlis magazine into our home for almost a year already. What did they quote him on?
March 22, 2017 9:37 am at 9:37 am #1241561–ParticipantI decided to look up the quote and found that it was never said by Aristotle, it is from Will Durant as a description of Aristotle’s philosophy. Apparently a retiring football player mistakenly thought it was Aristotle’s quote and mentioned it in his retirement speech and since then it has been attributed to Aristotle.
What happened to my signature line?
March 22, 2017 11:31 pm at 11:31 pm #1242337👑RebYidd23ParticipantWas Aristotle antivaxx?
