Today I went digging into some rubbish.
No, not garbage, old threads.
So I came upon some threads 2years old that I remember were up when I first came.
They were about how many people read the CR and quote opinions from it in conversations and say it as their own.
I recall one user wrote he or she was on a bus/subway with people from her community, a few of which were having a heated discussion about something that happened to be a popular and hot thread that week. The user listened as they said things like “I heard..” or “I think..” or “My friend says…” followed by direct things from the CR, some of even her/his own opinion. The user joked in the CR saying that she wanted to ask the people if they visit here or not….
Does this stuff really happen? Can people quote the CR like others quote Harry Potter or Mishna….
True, thousands of people read without posting, but this?????

I only do that if a story/situation comes up. I won’t quote people’s opinions unless they a) are basically mine as well or b) belong to people I actually know in real life.

When people talk to CR posters whom they know in “real life”, they sometimes quote.
I was blocked a few times. The first time was for saying to stone a chazzan with esrogim for singing too long, or something like that.
That’s the one I meant. I guess the other times were quiter. I recall a moderator thinking you impersonated a mod. Were you blocked then, too.

I was blocked a few more times by 80 a couple years ago. I don’t completely remember why.
But the esrog one will always be my fave. It was right around the big xmas snowstorm in 2010

I can’t say I know the CR like the back of my hand, but I’ve shared a few inspirational bits and pieces from what I’ve read here. 🙂
I often wonder, are we famous? Like, will I ever be sitting on a bus in NY and overhear someone say, “Well, then this user Bookworm120 said….”
I have to remember, this is a public forum, and everything I say is read by plenty of silent readers. Hello, silent readers! Not to sound creepy, but I know you’re out there!
I hear people quote CR stuff. I have a friend with a child who has social difficulties. She will quote CR conversations in the name of friends to initiate conversation with peers. I wasn’t so sure it was a bad idea. Unless she is specifically remembering the apikorsus.
