Lazer Brody entered the IDF (Israeli Army) as a Secular Jew.
Lazer Brody entered the IDF as a traif-eating Jew.

Lazer Brody left the IDF as an Orthodox Baal Teshuvah!

He later became a Breslov Rosh HaYeshivah, and
he has been super-active in kiruv rechokim and
teaching emunah to many thousands of Jews.

The radical anti-Zionists falsely say that the IDF is a “shmad army”.
(This = super ingratitude + super Motzi Shem Ra).

If that were true – and it is NOT true – then Lazer Brody,
    andothers, would not have become
Baalei Teshuvah during their time in the IDF.

    __________________________________________
What about the Jews who were shmaded by the
super-negative words of the radical anti-Zionists?

When Jews witness the disgusting HATE (Judenhass)
of radical anti-Zionists, like: The Neturei Karta, UJM.
HaKatan and SomeJewIKnow, that does NOT
make them do teshuvah. On the contrary, the
radical anti-Zionists push Jews farther-away from Torah,
with their wicked disgusting relentless hate.

“Moshe Rabbeinu criticizes 2 tribes for not wanting to fight for the Land”:

“The majority of those who go OTD while in the IDF
wanted to do so already. IDF service was the way out.”

I read a story once about a man who bit a dog.

If you take the sum total of Jews who became Baalei Teshuvah due to their army experiences ALONE, and add the total number of Jews who became OTD due to ‘anti-Zionist’ rhetoric ALONE, then in my humble estimation you are still at least two orders of magnitude short of the number of Jews who went OTD in the IDF… There are also some former hostages who became בעלי תשובה while in captivity by Hamas, do you recommend doing that also?

    SQUARE_ROOT:
Denying reality and trolling are both really not productive.
He is obviously not at all typical of those who enter the Zionist shmad arm.
Also, your “logic” is anyways fallacious. One exception obviously does not negate the entire rule, of course.

Let’s review, again, since the idol of Zionism seems to allow you no rest.
    1. Zionism is a shmad (as per all the gedolim and as anyone with even half a brain knows). The express goal – and unchanging – of Zionism, ever since it was founded, was and is, simply, to replace Judaism and Jews with godless idolatrous nationalism/Zionism and Zionists. It really is that simple.
    2. The Zionist army is the main brainwashing tool of that shmad.
    3. Therefore, as both logic and history/statistics show, the Zionist army is a shmad factory. Again, it really is that simple.

As to your rant at the end:
When Jews not brainwashed by Zionism witness the disgusting HATE (Judenhass) of the wicked Zionists, that does NOT make them view favorably the idolatry and heresy that is Zionism. On the contrary, the Zionists push those Jews farther-away from the idolatry and heresy of Zionism, with the Zionists’ wicked disgusting relentless hate, including attempting to forcibly shmad the yeshiva students and much, much more.

This is incredible! Now tell us about how great the Catholic church was at inspiring the many now-orthodox Jews that passed through there!
Oh, I know, let’s all kasher the Indian ashrams that fueled a whole generation of Baalei Teshiva!

But, let’s be honest. There are many great soldiers who never (yet!) become baalei teshiva, but at least they are sacrificing themselves for Baal!

I want moshiach. You’ll get no lashon hara from me. Half the people who post here really need to be careful what they write. They are delaying our redemption. The reason we do not have king moshiach now it’s not because the people are eating, not kosher. It is not because people are not studying enough Torah. Is because of.lashon hara.

Just to be clear. I am not interested in continuing the endless debate about Zionism etc. ad nauseam. It is not OK to call Jews kofrim, idol worshippers, galachim, etc., because they have a mistake in שיטה, and often not even that. (There are plenty of other possibly worse forms of krumkeit right here in the coffee room, especially of the מאי אהני לן רבנן variety, which is actual אפיקורסות according to the Gemara. I don’t see the Kanoyim calling them out.)

My only intention was to point out the complete fallacy of the opening post in this thread, which is in fact a man-bit-dog story. Aside which, it’s hard to give the IDF credit at all. Lazer Brody did not become Frum because his drill sergeant learned with him Likutey Moharan or taught him about Hisbodedus… Many people became בעלי תשובה after going through traumatic experiences or facing death, and that got them thinking about what the real תכלית of life is all about. Sometimes that can happen in the army. I have heard true stories like that about former soldiers in the American Army (which protects more Jews than the IDF…), the Russian Army (go volunteer there?), and also in the Israeli Army. Also about people who were in car crashes and jungle exploration mishaps, among other things. It isn’t some special סגולה of the IDF…

Keith – You are right that lashon hara is terrible, but that doesn’t make any other Torah prohibition not terrible. I don’t think that the גילוי עריות etc. that goes on in the IDF is helping to bring Moshiach either… Neither is the lashon hara and שנאת חינם coming out of the pro-army camp, for that matter.

Everyone here should really stop and think for a moment – nothing anyone says here or in any real life ‘coffee room’ makes any difference in the situation in Israel, or anywhere else. So why the hyperbole? It’s enough just to say what you think and move on, if even that is needed…

This whole conversation is silly. There is probably not a single institution in the whole world that produced more OTD jews than the yeshiva. Yeshivas probably produced 30 or 40 times more OTD than the army has. Does that mean yeshivas cause people to go OTD? Of course not.

So… is Rabbi Lazer Brody an army proponent? If not, why not? Is he the exception rather than the rule?
In science we call this anecdotal evidence. You need to have scientific evidence, percentage of secular Israelis becoming baalei teshuva vs religious ones becoming secular. Then you can have an intelligent adult conversation.

square root is totally off here.

no one should go the army in order to become a b’t

that’s the craziest thing I have ever heard

all gdolei yisrael prohibited for our yeshiva boys to enlist

    thats enough

we do not need chazal to back them up

and even two hundred lazer brody’s

    and five hundred artscroll quotes

are not going to make even one dent

    they should not enlist

    period.
