So this is what’s going on

My בכור is becoming bar mitzvahed soon and I was thinking of going to Philadelphia and davening with R Shmuel, maybe getting a bracha and get words of chizuk for my son (and me) I’ve tried calling the Yeshiva but it goes to voicemail, is there any way I can find out if my plan is possible, I don’t want to go there and be disappointed that he’s not there or even that there’s no minyan in the Yeshiva

    TIA for any info

    Thanks ujm

    Moish,

If you look at my profile it says I’ve been a member for 14 years 7 months

I have to be old if I was here for that long

CA: Before you know it you’ll it”H be making a Shidduch. Just like the last 13 years flew by in the blink of an eye, the next few years until your bochor’s Shidduch will be even quicker.

    Yup

I appreciate the Mazel Tovs but really want to know if the Yeshiva is operating or even if R Shmuel will be there

Ken Zain that AAQ is correct and that since Covid they’re doing virtual brochos.

    Re: virtual brochos
Is it possible to request a dvar Torah about evil of phones emailed to me or will it be offensive to even ask? Asking for a friend.

But it’s never vadai that r shmuel is there.
Did you call the office during the day?
Not very hard to get through to.

Unless things changed in recent years, Rav Shmuel was easily reachable on his home phone. He usually picks the phone up himself when it rings.

    Thanks flyer,

I got a number from google maps and the number goes to someone that doesn’t answer and it goes to voicemail

I might have to change my plan

Yeah, I called a number (7-8) of years ago and spoke with him

IMHO R Shmuel is the epitome of gadlus with thinking of other people and being easily accessible

Btw, Rav Dovid Feinstein zt’l was fairly easily reachable, as well. You just had to call the Yeshiva payphone and ask whoever answered to put him on the phone.

As the story goes, r Moshe’s grandson was manning his phone once. A lady called to find out when is the next Rosh chodesh. The grandson expressed doubt that it is appropriate to call Rosh yeshiva instead of opening a calendar. Annoyed lady said: young man, I am calling for twenty years already and always get the answer

@Always, cute story! Maybe she learned mishnayos Rosh Hashana that you must find out when Rosh Chodesh is every month from the Beis Din

    #2108396

Or maybe she was old enough not to go very far/to shul and family around her were not interested/helpful… I once visited an elderly relative in a remote place. After her husband passed away and she lost her vision, my grandfather O’H would come to her and read her Hagada … When I visited, she went to another room, somehow found her Rosh Hashonah Machzor, and gave it to me, saying – please take it as nobody in my family is using it …

… and since Rav Moshe was the Av Beis Din of Agudas HaRabbonim…

Don’t forget that Rosh Chodesh was given to the women.
