I was zoche to be one of the 700,000 to attend the levaya yesterday of Rav Ovadia Yosef zt’l.
One thing that struck me was the sense of achdus that rarely is experienced in EY. Present were Ashkenazim, Sephardim, Livish, Chasidish, traditional/ chilonim, Mizrachim – all colors and stripes coming together for one purpose – to show respect for a Gadol b’Torah who sacrificed for Klal Yisroel. Could there be a more impressive kiddush hashem!
The climax for me was when the aveilim said kadish and everyone in unison answered Yehai Shmei Raba – an inspiring moment of achdus – a taste of vy’aasu koolum aguda uchus !
What a shame it takes a levaya of a Godol b’Yisroel to put our differences aside, remove the pirud that so blatently plagues our nation and instead focus on what unites us !!!
Heard even Arabs came…it was so sad. My class heard the news in middle of Shmonei Esrei of Mincha, and everyone just started crying…….
Yes great Achdus…..that is what we need to do he would of said if still among the living….
Did the Agudah publish a statement about it? I see that the non-jewish candidates for Mayor of NYC said something, but our American Gedolei Torah can’t seem to bring themselves to say something. Why?
I was there also. I’m ususally not nispa’el (sorry, no good English equivalent) by huge crowds of Jews, but this time I was.
They are not in the habit of publishing statements on petiras.

Why dont you all call the Aguda offices and give them your number so the gedolim can personally call you whenever you feel that a statement is in order? I dont like being harsh but all you people who tell gedolim what to do all day should just get a life. Seriously. Sheesh.
A statement you need? You mean, like, you thrive on political empty, canned, heart-go-outs?
