We’re in the process of purchasing a new refrigerator. We now learned that there have been many complaints about the refrigerators from the company which makes our chosen item. Could anyone recommend particular brandswhich you know to be good/ reputable?

I have heard in the past that some people have had some issues with their fridge in terms of shabbos and things being muktza. Just a thought that I had when I read this. Good luck with choosing the best product for you!

It was not an inexpensive fridge, either.

My sister just bought a beautiful GE refrigerator that had great rating. She got a great price online. Then someone notified her of the shabbos issue so she called a frum appliance repair guy and he told her that there is no way to avert this problem and no frum retailer would’ve sold this to her.
She ended up returning that one and going into a frum owned appliance store in Boro Park and got a Kitchenaid.

I have had a few Kenmore appliances and have always asked the salesperson which company manufactured it and have always been told. I have never had any complaints about my Kenmore products. I currently have a stacking washer/dryer from them and it is wonderful.

We called our rav who advised to hold off on delivery, as it seems problematic. The fridge we ordered has an alarm that sounds after 3 minutes if the door is ajar (can easily happen if a pan is too big or if a kid leaves a door open). It also has sensors which monitor how long a door is left open and adjusts the temperature to keep items cold. Oy.
I actually read really good things about Samsung, including that it is the top rated brand (refrigerators) for the last 6 years.
The brand we chose is the worst rated by customers (who knew?).
We were told to shop in a frum store, only to discover online, that they carry the exact brand/similar model (same features) as the one we ordered (huh?). So, back to square one.
The velcro idea is a good one. Does anyone have a fairly new fridge that they’re happy with that does not present any issues??

There are also some guidelines about purchasing fridges here: http://www.star-k.org/cons-appl-advice.htm#refrigerators. Even with all of this, you should consult your Rav before your purchase.
