    A: Hey

    B: Hey

    A: What’s up?

    B: Nothing much. You?

    A: Nothing much.

    END OF CONVERSATION!

I once had a Rebbie explain it. He asked that the answer of “Boruch Hashem” in not an answer, because we all know “??? ??????? ?? ???? ?? ?????? ?? ???”, so answering “B”H” is not a real answer. And he explained that in today’s language, the words, “How are you?” or “VOs Macht du?” is not really a question. It is a way of saying, “Hi!” And the correct response to that is “???? ???” also meaning “Hi!”

In todays venacular it is not a question and answer, rather, it is a simple greeting.

If its better than expected (most of the time or all of the time) why do you still have such low expectations?

    That was half serious.

What’s the difference between rhetorical and hypothetical again?

Wanderingchana; (Or, Wonderingchana); A rhetorical question is one where you know the answer, but want to make a point. A hypothetical question is where you hypothesize (Hold on to your dentures.), or speculate about a certain (nonexistent) situation.

    metrodriver: Good one!

That was a reference to a thread I started where my use of one word led to the changing of the thread title to the other word. If anyone actually got that, they probably ignored it, LOL.

try this- its so fun- Dont answer! just giv a two second pause (as if u wer awkwardly trying to think of a response) n ull c 90 percent of the time they werent waiting for an answer.. they just wanted to start talking and needed a way to open the conversation! i always get surprised when i naturally save my breath n wait for the other to start yakking n i c someone actually waitin to hear wats up..wen it duz im like cool! a not totally self-centered person!

There should not have been any replies to this thread at all, just the OP.

Twiggy, you called this the ‘rhetorical question’ thread, but then wrote “what do you say?” after the rhetorical question! 🙂

JK! Its a good question, even if not a rhetorical one. When people answer Baruch H.shem, thats really short for Baruch H.shem fine, or Baruch H.shem well etc etc.

We acknowledge that we thank H.shem in whatever matzav we find ourselves, whether we THINK its a good matzav for us or chas v’shalom not. Everything is really l’tovah. Just that it is not always instantly apparent to us.

Its all part of H.shem’s master plan, nigzar before ??? ??? ??????, and because we are created for the honor of H.shem and we are the ?? ?????, we know that our Father has only our best intentions at heart.
