What is the source and purpose of the roite bindelech segula? Where is it brought down in the Seforim that tying a red string around your hand is a segula? And what is the segula that this brings? Does it push off ayin hora?

April 29, 2012 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #871363PatriMemberI thought I saw another thread where Sam2 recently said it has a legit basis.
April 30, 2012 2:42 am at 2:42 am #871364derszogerMemberIt’s a very old segula.
April 30, 2012 2:57 am at 2:57 am #871365Sam2ParticipantSam4: Interesting. He also mentions the stepping over a baby thing that was discussed on here a while back.
Patri: Chas V’shalom. I said that Tosfos calls it an Isur D’Oraisa of Darchei Ha’emori.
April 30, 2012 8:05 am at 8:05 am #871366HaLeiViParticipantSam2, where is that Tosafos, in the Sugya of Darkei Emori in Shabbos?
It’s interesting that he made no discussion of it. It was enough that that’s what was done.
I think the Roite Bindel has been attached my many Rabbonim.
April 30, 2012 5:04 pm at 5:04 pm #871367apushatayidParticipantThose who do wear the Bindel. Why? Is it a shmira against something?
April 30, 2012 5:36 pm at 5:36 pm #871368derszogerMemberAgainst ayin hora.
April 30, 2012 6:46 pm at 6:46 pm #871369sam4321ParticipantHalevi: I think sam2 meant Tosefta 7:1 or 2.
April 30, 2012 9:57 pm at 9:57 pm #871370HaLeiViParticipantI’ll have to check that when I get around to it. All I remember now is that a lightning rod is not Darkei Emori.
April 30, 2012 11:01 pm at 11:01 pm #871371Sam2ParticipantSam4: I meant that too, but I thought it’s brought in a Tosfos somewhere. I’ve been searching all day but can’t find it though, so maybe you’re right.
