I have a Galaxy s3 mini and I tried rooting and installing Kitkat but I’ve been having some issues.
Here is what I did:
Downloaded Odin and Kies (for the phone drivers, Kies was closed while using Odin)
Downloaded CMW Recovery and a root.zip file
Flashed CMW and placed the root.zip on extSD card.
In Recovery mode, backed up system then installed the root file.
Downloaded Root Checker and it said I have root.
Then downloaded slim4.4_golden.nova.20140630.zip and a gapps file and placed them both on the extSD.
Using Recovery (Vol Up+Home+Power), wiped data and davika (whatever it’s called) and then flashed slim4 file. But I got an error.
I then tried cm11.0_golden.nova.20140823.zip which went smoothly and then gapps-kk-20140606-signed.zip but in middle it stopped with an error and said something about process 7 (I think).
Anyone know what I should do? Would it be better to go through Odin instead of Recovery (using Odin compatible files, of course)?
Please respond only if you really know what you are talking about (personal experience or Android geeks…)
Thank you very much!

most probably there was an issue with the file/rom you downloaded (I have had a similar issue before).
get it from a different source I usually use xda.
August 31, 2014 11:55 am at 11:55 am #1030538tsedraytParticipantJust a thought. Sometimes you have to wipe the cache also before installing . Should be an option in the first screen of the recovery mode I think. I’ve never had a problem and I use novafusion roms.
August 31, 2014 2:28 pm at 2:28 pm #1030539SayIDidIt™ParticipantHere’s am update:
Changed to TWRP2
Backed up all data then did a full format incl. chache and davlik.
Then installed th SlimKAT file and gApps.
(I did NOT format chache after install)
Rebooted pone and saw Galaxy sIII mini screen like normal then cam SlimKAT logo (replacing Samsung’s) but it just remained on the flashing SlimKAT logo.
I removed the battery and restored the phone using TWRP Recovery.
I then downloaded Nova Fusion’s CM11 for s3 mini and tried flashing it but I got a Failed message. This happened with a number of Nova’s files, including the latest (cm11.0_goldem.nova.20140830.zip)
I tried downloading the Odin version but for some reason it keeps stopping in middle (and I don’t have unlimited internet and can’t keep downloading files).
Didn’t think this should be so hard…
Any help would be appreciated!
August 31, 2014 5:35 pm at 5:35 pm #1030540appdevParticipantAre you on XDA? That would probably be a more appropriate place to get help for this….
September 1, 2014 11:14 am at 11:14 am #1030541tsedraytParticipantYou must format cache after install also! It has happened to me that my phone went into a bootloop after installing new firmware if I didn’t format the cache. Also the first time you boot up after a firmware installation let the phone sit for like five minutes on the boot screen. The first boot always takes longer than usual.
BTW, these roms are for the international version only (i8190). If your model is just plain 8190 then it might not work. I think samsung themselves released kitkat update for the american versions.
September 1, 2014 12:53 pm at 12:53 pm #1030542SayIDidIt™ParticipantAre you on XDA?
I am. Got one response so far but not much help. I figured I’ll ask around here because XDA is very big and my post can get lost amid all the others there.
You must format cache after install also!
Yeah, realized that afterwards and I stupidly deleted the SlimKAT zip after I got the bootloop. But why aren’t Nova Fusion’s downloads working for me?
BTW, these roms are for the international version only (i8190).
I’m on GT-I8190L. Nova Fusion doesn’t specify which s3 mini the’re for.
I think samsung themselves released kitkat update for the american versions.
For the s3 mini LTE only, I think.
September 1, 2014 2:01 pm at 2:01 pm #1030543JosephParticipantI understand you’d want to root it to gain access to things that require that, but what do you gain by changing the rom?
September 1, 2014 2:14 pm at 2:14 pm #1030544tsedraytParticipantInteresting how originally cm worked but now only slim worked and cm got error. Before installation try data dalvik and cache formats. And then wipe your cache and dalvik afterwards too. Then see what happens.
BTW is slim from nova also?
September 1, 2014 2:28 pm at 2:28 pm #1030545ED IT ORParticipanttry flashing it back to the last working rom and see if that gets passed the boot loop.
after everyflash you must clear all the caches and logs inc dalvik.
September 1, 2014 5:27 pm at 5:27 pm #1030546tsedraytParticipantError 7 is only a problem with cwm according to xda.
September 2, 2014 12:08 am at 12:08 am #1030547SayIDidIt™ParticipantHere’s an update:
So I redownloaded CM11 (20140830) and managed to install it after wiping data (did a full wipe and cleared cache and dalvik). The installation started and went completely through. Then I installed gapps and it went thorough as well. Then cleared cache and dalvik and rebooted the phone.
First came Samsung Galaxy s3 mini logo and then came CM’s logo with the spinning arrow around that weird guy… And it sat there for an hour! I tried it twice with no success! Frustrating!
Anyone have any idea?
September 2, 2014 3:17 am at 3:17 am #1030548frumnotyeshivishParticipantDisclaimer: I never did anything with an s3 mini, nor did I read this whole thread that carefully. It’s late.
2 thoughts:
1. Did you try CM11 without gapps to see if it runs first? That would be my first process of elimination when troubleshooting.
2. I’ve had similar ROM problems with samsung htc and other phones which involved having outdated (or too new) firmware (especially the radio version) or the wrong kernel. Just be careful. Messing with firmware could brick things and you can lock things that you don’t intend to.
I’m done here. Good night.
September 2, 2014 12:08 pm at 12:08 pm #1030549tsedraytParticipantThis may seem a bit redundant but try wiping cache and dalvik again. Also the first boot will take a long time maybe 10 minutes.
I’m assuming that before you installed cyanogenmod you did a factory reset/clear user data?

Tried that with no success.

I tried clearing those again but no luck! And yes, I wiped the entire phone before installing CM. And I let it boot for over an hour.
September 2, 2014 8:18 pm at 8:18 pm #1030551tsedraytParticipantTwo more options you might wanna try. One is to try a different rom either older version (or newer if available) of cm or something else. Second, try reinstalling stock rom and then do full data dalvik and chache wipe and reinstall cm. Not sure why this helps but apparently it does for some issues.
September 2, 2014 9:24 pm at 9:24 pm #1030552SayIDidIt™Participanttry reinstalling stock rom and then do full data dalvik and chache wipe and reinstall cm.
I am currently using stock. All my unsuccessful installations were from stock.
Thanks for your continued help!
September 2, 2014 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm #1030553tsedraytParticipantRight but reinstalling stock and then installing cm again may help.

Yeah, that’s a problem! I NEED to find a good Wi-Fi somewhere!!
