Because the price of gasoline has risen so sharply, and because many gas stations are now charging a higher price for credit card purchases, just thought I would pass along the following.
If you have cash on hand in advance, that is obviously the best thing. However, if you do not, try using a debit card. I was at a Gulf station the other day, and found that using a debit card rather than a credit card set the pump to the cash price.
I tried this once before at another station, and it did not work. So apparently, it is not a standard policy. However, if you do not have cash with you, and do not have time to find an ATM, then it is worth a try.
PY – True, but some cc get good cashback on gas purchases.

I thought you were going to say what Obama said during the election in 08 (when gas was just as high) “Make sure your tires are filled with enough air” (strange why it wasn’t mentioned now)

All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are.

This makes one think, and also puts things into perspective.
Diet Snapple, 16 oz , $1.29 … $10.32 per gallon!
Lipton Ice Tea, 16 oz , $1.19 … $9.52 per gallon!
Gatorade, 20 oz , $1.59 ….. $10.17 per gallon!
Ocean Spray, 16 oz , $1.25 .. $10.00 per gallon!
Brake Fluid, 12 oz , $3.15 …. $33.60 per gallon!
Vick’s Nyquil, 6 oz , $8.35 … $178.13 per gallon!
Pepto Bismol, 4 oz, $3.85 . $123.20 per gallon!
Whiteout, 7 oz , $1.39 ……… $25.42 per gallon!
Scope, 1.5 oz , $0.99 …..$84.48 per gallon!
And this is the REAL KICKER.
Evian water, 9 oz , $1.49 …$21.19 per gallon!
$21.19 for a gallon of WATER!!

Ever wonder why computer printers are so cheap? So they can hook you for the ink. Someone calculated the cost of the ink at, you won’t believe it but it’s true; $ 5,200 a gal.
$ 5200 A GALLON!!!
So, the next time you’re at the pump, be glad your car doesn’t run on water, Scope, Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or, God forbid, Printer Ink!!!!!
And – If you don’t pass this along to at least one person, your muffler will fall off!!

Think about each of the above fluids in context. How many gallons of each do you need to get to work, let’s say? Do you go through 3.5 gallons of whiteout during your daily commute? What about Pepto Bismol? Even the most stressed out accountant can get by with less than a gallon.
I use around 600 gallons of gas every year. Not anywhere close to that in the other categories.

So think of gas at 2.75, and you are paying an extra 600$. That is somewhat more reasonable, no?
