Ok, I just got this attack. I’m absolutely TERRIFIED!! I’ve no idea what’s in store for me. I daven real hard every day. But still…. Oh, I’m sooo scared!!:(

March 30, 2011 1:30 am at 1:30 am #754686observanteenMemberDeizooger: I know, I know. It’s pretty hard putting it into practice though.
My neighbor who I’m very close with is probably getting engaged tonight. It scares me! (Aww, I’m excited too!) Y’know, this year’s almost over, I’ll be outta school sooner than later. Then there’s seminary. And then….???! What will my life turn out to be like?? Where will I end up working?? Who’ll I’ll marry? Am I overreacting?
March 30, 2011 1:35 am at 1:35 am #754687eclipseMemberuh oh…hope I’m not to blame.
March 30, 2011 1:42 am at 1:42 am #754688FL613MemberUntil you graduate high school you know what your next step is. Each year you go up a grade. After seminary, you enter the real world. Should I work? Should I go to school? Will I finish before I get married? If you do everything with Simcha and have Bitachon and Emuna everything falls into place.
From reading your posts you seem pretty level headed. Its normal to worry, just don’t get stuck in it.
March 30, 2011 1:50 am at 1:50 am #754690AinOhdMilvadoParticipantBeing afraid indicates a lack of emunah.
I know that logic would seem to dictate that one needs emunah as a pre-requisite to praying to HaSh-m,
BUT…
That is NOT necessarily true.
What you need to do is to Daven to HaSh-m FOR emunah.
Talk to HaSh-m. Tell Him you are afraid. Tell Him you are terrified. Tell Him to help you to have emunah. Daven HARD for emunah, and Daven for it OFTEN.
HaSh-m WILL answer you and strengthen your emunah.
When your emunah gets a little stronger, you will be able to daven even MORE strongly to HaSh-m for MORE emunah.
It’s a cycle. Pray for emunah, then emunah will help you pray (for MORE emunah) etc., etc., etc.
Perhaps you can start the process by thinking about the fact that HaSh-m HAS taken care of you until this moment. You have a roof over your head, you have a bed to sleep in, you have food to eat, you have clothes to wear. He HAS cared for you until now, so why would you think that He will stop in the future?
With that thought in mind, start the process of praying for greater emunah. You CAN achieve it. It’s up to you.
March 30, 2011 2:04 am at 2:04 am #754691ZeesKiteParticipantWatch out there. It’s a scary world out there! I know, been around some time. (hey that means I survived!)

March 30, 2011 3:44 am at 3:44 am #754696observanteenMemberStuffedCabbage: I’m staying here too. THAT’S a BIG part of it!
eclipse: No, it’s not just you. Unfortunately, abuse is pretty common nowadays.

I have noticed many of your posts…. and I’m not sure why you repeatedly choose to believe in the worst of humanity.
Are there bad people out there? Heck yea. But there are so many more amazing ones! This doesn’t mean you have to walk around with your head in the sand, to be sure, but a cautious awareness is more than enough. Open up your eyes to the good in those around you and the world becomes a far less scary place.
This should be the most exciting time of your life. This is when you get to decide what you want to be and who you want to become. All your years of mandatory schooling have lead you to this point, where you make THAT decision. Don’t let the fear of the unknown get in the way of this incredible time. No one knows what the future has in store for them, and in a way thats a blessing. So get out there, put your best foot forward and give ’em hell!
March 30, 2011 4:28 am at 4:28 am #754698observanteenMemberThanks, sac! You really helped me look at it in a positive light. Ok, I’m up to bat! (BTW, I just came home from the lechaim. Guess it lightened my mood!:))
March 30, 2011 5:25 am at 5:25 am #754699HealthParticipantcshapiro – “when was ur last shrink appt? i think its def something to discuss with him…..”
I think these teenagers would need a shrink if they wouldn’t be scared. It’s good to be scared, as long as you don’t become a “Henny Penny”. Too many people take life for granted and consider that happines is based on material things. They just go day to day trying to have as much creature comforts as possible.
March 30, 2011 1:39 pm at 1:39 pm #754700SacrilegeMember“I think these teenagers would need a shrink if they wouldn’t be scared.”
Not so much. When I was a teenager I couldn’t wait to get out and ‘start’ my life… I still cant 😉
My point is that every person deals with change differently. If the fear is debilitating that it prevents you from moving forward that is when you call the shrink, a momentary freak out is fine.
March 30, 2011 5:35 pm at 5:35 pm #754701HealthParticipantSac -“Not so much.”
Why did you post this, when you agree with me?
Did you read the rest of my post?
March 30, 2011 6:15 pm at 6:15 pm #754702SacrilegeMemberI don’t agree that teenagers who aren’t scared need to see a shrink.
March 30, 2011 6:33 pm at 6:33 pm #754703HealthParticipantSac – I don’t necessary mean “scared”, but concerned. Some people are just too carefree and have no concern about anything of value in life.
March 30, 2011 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #754704SacrilegeMemberIn a teenager, this warrants seeing a shrink?
March 30, 2011 7:49 pm at 7:49 pm #754705APushetaYidParticipantThe best solution for your problem is VITAMIN A & B (Amunah/Bituchin)let hashem do his job. The best you can do is to daven and do mitzvahs. The rest is up to hashem. If you’ll trust in him he will do good and you’ll be really CALM!
Also take each day as it comes… Life is just too short to worry!
Hope this helped!
March 30, 2011 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm #754706observanteenMemberAPusheteYid: Cute! Thanks everyone. B”H, I calmed down. Guess it was a passing phase. (Although I’m still concerned, but not worried).
March 31, 2011 2:36 am at 2:36 am #754707HealthParticipantSac – “In a teenager, this warrants seeing a shrink?”
It obviously depends on the degree. Many lifelong problems start during adolescence, such as smoking, alcohol or drug addictions. We won’t mention everything that occurs with this age group.
March 31, 2011 2:51 am at 2:51 am #754708cshapiroMemberif anyone has a fear that is causing them anxiety i would say it would be justifiable to see a shrink…
March 31, 2011 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm #754709aries2756ParticipantI believe it is normal to feel a little bit of fear of the unknown. There is always a bit of fear mixed in with the excitement. WE know that no matter what we plan, there is no guarantee that it will turn out that way. We always have to account for bumps in the road and of course twists and turns. That also adds to the excitement but also the fear. Especially in kids. What if I forget to take….. What if my roommate…… what if ….. and what if….its par for the course. B”H teens have colorful imaginations. It only becomes a problem when the fears outweigh the excitement.
March 31, 2011 5:27 pm at 5:27 pm #754710s2021MemberObservan- I think ur fear is tot normall! Ur about to step into a completely new world- adulthood.. Its going to be brand new and totally different than the school life that u r so accustomed to.. Change is scary! Real life, real worries- its big!! I remember having that same fear a couple years back by one of our graduation/goodbye parties. Just remember- whatever the future has in store 4 u- it is being planned by someone who loves u more than u can understand and knows EXACTLY what is best 4 u. U will NEVER be dealt with anything too difficult to handle. With that in mind- go tackle ur new life! Hashm is writing the script, and has only the best for u in store. I know u know a little about me from my ventings.. (and I hope that is not the cause 4 sum of ur fears..;) but I can say in all honestness, after being dealt with a few curves- I am such a different person, and I love it. Gd knows what hes doing!!
March 31, 2011 9:59 pm at 9:59 pm #754711observanteenMembers2021:Thanks! I got so much chizuk from your post!!:)
I’m also grateful for the bumps in the road I experienced. I was just scared there’s more to come… But, B”H, I’m really relaxed. I daven every day that my zivug should shteig, have good middos, etc.. Let’s hope for the best!
March 31, 2011 10:33 pm at 10:33 pm #754712s2021Memberobservan- yay so glad! It seems to me because u have such an awareness or fear or whatever it is that ur feeling about finding a zivug who will be good 4 u- u will be cautious and u will be fine..:)
March 31, 2011 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #754713observanteenMembers2021: Hey, I certainly hope that’s true!:) Thanks once again!

April 1, 2011 1:06 am at 1:06 am #754719seeallsidesParticipantI am very impressed with your insights, obs, it seems to me that you are growing and always trying to find the right things to do. It is normal to be afraid of the future at your point in life, it is really the first major decision you are going to make, and it is so scary. Really there is not much more that you can do besides always trying to grow and do the right thing, so throw yourself in Hashem’s hands, daven a lot, be b’simcha, and iy’H, you will be zocheh to b’suros tovos, b’mheira.
April 1, 2011 1:17 am at 1:17 am #754720observanteenMemberSeeAllSides: Thanks tons!
eclipse: Just kidding, don’t worry… I’d have let you know in a nicer way…;)
Sac: I know this is all anonymous and I can’t really prove anything to you. I just want you to know that I’m not the type who can pretend being something I’m not. It just won’t work! So yes, I am a teen. Just wondering, what made you think I’m an adult? Do I act like one? Is that a compliment?;)
April 1, 2011 1:54 am at 1:54 am #754721SacrilegeMember‘teen
Did I say that you were an adult?
I just think you are misrepresenting yourself.
I have a very sensitive BS alarm… and it went off.
