well i know that halacha tells us what chometz is, my question is there a way to prove something is chometz through science? what is the chemical reaction that creates chometz? this could be a big money maker as i could sell every jewish home a chometz checker which you can use to simply scan your home for hidden traces of the stuff
and while were at it why not have a lightsaber battle as we fire up our hyperdrives and hurtle through space and time

Yeah, the scientific definition is when it turns white or forms cracks.
Keep in mind that if you do invent such a thing, in ten years they will say that everyone is mechuyav to have it.
The question is, if I make a chemical that will reverse the oxidation would that be valid Lehalacha?
I don’t think halacha would rely on such a definition, which would be a humrah. It would tend to pasul everything.
Actually, the Poskim debate whether flour mixed with pure juice and baking soda is a problem. It rises but is not fermentation.
