Would love to get positive input into camps. I’m not aware of them at all.

It shouldn’t be over the top in gashmiyus.

Camp ohr shraga is a great learning camp for mesivta bochurim they went on trips after first Seder

There was sports too (after a second Seder)
When I was there there were well known rabbanim (Rav Nesanel Quinn ran it, Rav leibel Katz was the posek, Rav Zelig Epstien was there, and even Rav Zev Smith was there)

Not sure how it is now though being that Rav Quinn, Rav Epstien, and Rav Katz were נפטרים

Do you really expect things leading to Lashon Hara will go through, especially this week of לא תלך רכיל?

Your son is in 10th Grade and you know nothing about camps “at all”? Where has he been every summer until now, in a closet? Don’t mean to be rude, but most boys have been in camp since at least 5th Grade.

Where are his friends going? Most boys want to go with their friends. (Unless in this closet you have had him locked up in he has no friends.)

Wouldn’t it be wise to ask your son’s Rebbe?

BP27’s advice is right on point. Unless your bochur is very “social” and makes friends easily, he will be much happier going where he knows at least a few other campers. After getting a few suggestions along those lines, perhaps check with his rebbe regarding any red flags on the ruach of the camp.

I heard that Camp <REMOVED> is bad in Ruchnius. Then again Camp <REMOVED> doesn’t have good sports. Camp <REMOVED> doesn’t have good food. The best camp for your son would be Camp <REMOVED> – it’s really great.

    p.s. I’m the director there..

“Where has he been every summer until now, in a closet? Don’t mean to be rude, but most boys have been in camp since at least 5th Grade.”

Maybe he hasn’t gone until now because, believe it or not, there’s no actual halacha that says one must send children to a sleep-away camp.

Who says it’s a father and not the kid himself

This was his second post in 4 years and in the first one he tells people to come to ramat beit shemesh, so it’s possible he moved but highly doubt he’s in 10th grade

at this age, he can work as a councilor at Oorah, for example, maybe other camps also have jobs for teenagers. Much more meaningful experience for a teenager.

Actually, it is a minhag many follow dating back to the alte heim. Chazal bring down the inyan of sending yiddeshe kinderlach to summer camp as part of the machlokes as to whether Orlando or Miami is the preferred venue for the Pesach sedorim.again in late August.

    What Common Saychel said.

Or let the kid find a job at at a local supermarket. He’ll have some spending money of his own and he’ll learn a bit of personal responsibility.

OP, are you referring to a learning camp or a sports (etc.) camp?

Tkank you all for the input.

We live outside of the US, so my son has never been to a camp there.
    Appreciate the insights.

Why are you sending your 10th grader to חוץ לארץ

My best camp experience was when I went to ארץ ישראל for camp (in Beis medrash)
