My niece is looking into seminaries for next year and is seriously considering Seminar Yerushalayim but would like to hear some first-hand experiences. If you went there, can you please share?

I was there this past year, and I chose it because of its out of town flavor and the less social pressures. I was really happy with my choice; all the girls were super nice and friendly. There was a huge mix of girls in my year from really in townny coming from the tristate area and from out of town( my roommates came from Dallas, Chile!) but even the girls from in town were really friendly. Is say that was what made everything so enjoyable- the friendly atmosphere. Most of the girls were very growth oriented and came from homes with working parents and were familiar with nonjewish books and movies but again very growth oriented. I do not come from a working family yet happened to fit in quite well. It was interesting because the hanhalah was very bias yaakovy with high expectations and a very straight hashkafah but the girls were more open minded in a sense. As far as the academics goes, the school is pretty non academic but there is an honors track and work to be done, but there are many options for girls that struggle with academics. And after all that, I am aware that for this year they are revamping somewhat , idk exactly how much of a transformation will take place, I assume majority of the girls applying are looking at previous years as a reference and the school dynamic will not change all that drastically. I suggest looking into these potential changes. Good luck!

I didn’t go there but I heard from someone who’s there now that they have very few people there now compared to other years as it got a bad name so there trying to redo themselves.

I heard that they’re really changing for next year! They changed their name to Bais Yaakov Seminar and they even have a new logo.

I actually did not get the impression that they got a bad name, it’s just that there are so many schools that it’s harder for everyone, my friend in a different seminary told me that a lot of seminaries have less girls than they used to.

I’m applying and I’m really excited!!! They’re being very picky with who they’re taking, and they can do it cuz they got lots of applicants. They’re taking only REAL BY type of girls, and highly academic ones!!

They’re also starting a whole program about Bais Yaakov and then taking us to Poland!!! I’m SUPER excited and can’t wait!!!!!!

    YochiP!!

I’m also applying to Bais Yaakov Seminar and I’m sooooo excited!!! I got their application already, and sending it in soon, with the $50 coupon I got at the event!!

What I like so much is that it’s a new place with 32 years of experience, so they know what to do and are responsible for the girls. and are doing great new stuff next year!! You heard about the Poland trip???

Their event with Rebetzin Altuski was amazing and I’m so excited for all the amazing teachers next year! (I HOPE I GET IN!!!) Are they really being picky??? The real good girls from my class are applying so I hope they won’t mind getting too many girls from the same place 🙂 🙂 🙂

Style, I don’t know what you’re saying. I live in Bait Vegan and I work in a few seminaries. I see the girls. The girls in Seminar are really nice refined girls. I can’t tell you about their academic level but I see them in the street and I can’t imagine such good girls got a bad name. And there’s not so few of them! I see them all around the neighborhood.

I assume if they’re making a change it must be to the academic side of things.

emato4 I wish your niece good luck with all her decisions, and if she comes to BVG, send her to me for meals!

Yudit, so sweet of you! I also just heard that they’re changing the name to Beis Yaakov Seminar to make it clear that they are aligned with Bais Yaakov values.

There really is so much competition for seminaries these days, years ago when I went there were so few choices so all the seminaries were pretty big. But there’s obviously value in the older and more experienced seminaries; you know what you’re getting.

It’s funny how so many new users have just joined this site in the past 2 weeks just to say how great Beis Yaakov Seminar is.

Let’s just say they’re more than just of like mind 😉
