I thought democrats follow the science and the science (cdc and Fauci) say that one should wear masks everywhere
Why aren’t New York New Jersey and California not following the science? Do they want to get us all killed? They’re not even differentiating between vaxxed and unvaxxed!February 11, 2022 9:25 am at 9:25 am #2059493Reb EliezerParticipant
The contraction of COVID has diminished, so the requirement for mask wearing has been relaxed in New York.February 11, 2022 9:54 am at 9:54 am #2059504ujmParticipant

I’ll ask again
Circle back psaki said (and the cdc) that 99% of the county is high transmission so are you and hochul arguing with them?February 11, 2022 10:59 am at 10:59 am #2059522Reb EliezerParticipant
When did they say that?February 11, 2022 10:59 am at 10:59 am #2059524jackkParticipant
The mask mandate was struck down Jan. 24 by a NY state Supreme Court judge who said state officials didn’t have the authority to issue the mandate without legislative approval.
Did you not know this ?February 11, 2022 12:04 pm at 12:04 pm #2059535GadolhadorahParticipant
This stuff is so “yesterday”….lets move on to the more current and urgent topics such as “Rav Gavornlik’s powerful segulah to solve the shidduch” crisis “The Grey areas of Halacha regarding Techeles” and perhaps most importantly, “the long-term effects of sleep deprivation among those davening vasikim”February 11, 2022 1:58 pm at 1:58 pm #2059578
“When did they say that?“
From YWN WhatsApp group from Wednesday
*WATCH:* White House Press Sec. Jen Psaki: “Our guidance has consistently been this: When you are in a high transmission area, which is everywhere in the country, you should wear a mask in indoor settings.”
And she quoted the cdc
I thought a higher court reinstated it, but anyways that doesn’t answer for other statesFebruary 13, 2022 2:00 pm at 2:00 pm #2059901jackkParticipant
You answered your own question. Just because they stopped mandating it doesn’t mean that they still don’t recommend that people wear masks on their own volition.
Furthermore, can the republicans who have been fighting a war against mask and vaccine mandates stop blaming the democrats when the mandates get lifted?
You do not get both ways.
While the mandate applies – let’s scream that it’s against science.
After it is lifted, let’s scream that it’s against science.February 13, 2022 8:07 pm at 8:07 pm #2059950
Let me explain myself again
Democrats can’t yell at republicans for “not following the science” and then not follow the science and say you don’t need to mask when the cdc still says you shouldFebruary 13, 2022 8:11 pm at 8:11 pm #2059961Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipant
jackk, I think you need to separate between those who oppose mandates on philosophical principles and those who simply rant against any public health measure from their mothers’ basements.
For the first group – as of now, I think, 85% of the US workforce is vaccinated. So are retirees. So are many college students. So, who is left? unemployed? gray economy? illegal immigrants?February 13, 2022 8:18 pm at 8:18 pm #2059965Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipant
jackk > can the republicans who have been fighting a war against mask and vaccine mandates stop blaming the democrats when the mandates get lifted?
I think everyone will continue exploiting covid for political reasons whether we like it or not. Start by repeatedly praising Trump administration for vaccine development and hope that he will respond in kind.
Note that we are doing worse under the D- administration. I have 9 developed countries on my list including US. As of Feb 2021, US was 3rd worst on deaths (UK, Italy were worse), 15% higher than the median. Starting from then to now, US is 2nd worst (after Poland) – 60% higher than the median for that time period! US and Poland – only ones with more deaths in 2nd year than first.
Vaccine doses – again, 2nd worst, only Poland worse.
Excess mortality – 2020 Spring – lower than others; winter 2020 – about same; Sep 2021 – Delta – higher than all others, including Poland.
So, bottom lines, if you can influence any democrats – try to affect what your leadership is not doing instead of fighting political battles. Saying right slogans does not help much.April 19, 2022 8:53 am at 8:53 am #2078844
Why isn’t the cdc fighting this Florida judge if this new variant is starting up again?
New York City’s health commissioner is warning the COVID-19 risk level will likely rise from “low” to “medium” in the next few days, moving the needle for the first time since January’s omicron wave.
Infection numbers in the city have steadily increased over the past 45 days, which has brought the positivity rate to nearly 4.5% — and in some parts of Manhattan like the Financial District and Lincoln Square, it now tops 15%.
Based on the rise of cases, Dr. Ashwin Vasan, the city’s health commissioner, is recommending New Yorkers once again wear masks indoors.

If you are immuno compromised/high risk, a mask may make sense indoors, on planes, etc. Otherwise, virtually all public health experts agree that for most people, risk is low, even with higher beta variant infection rates. Combination of prior Covid exposure, vaccinations and therapeutic drugs all make it less dangerous to go w/o masks.April 19, 2022 11:06 pm at 11:06 pm #2078948
What!?!? What about the 2 year old girl that pulls off her mask? She’s not a health risk? She can get the whole plane sick! Chv
