Here’s what the Belzer Rebbes said:
“How can I travel for rest and vacation when we are fighting a battle on all fronts and soldiers are sacrificing their lives, they’re working hard for us and we’re going on vacation?” the Rebbe was quoted saying by haredi news site Behadrei Haredim.
I’m pretty sure he isn’t a Zionist. Thoughts?

    What kind of thoughts?
You don’t need to be a Zionist to appreciate Jews are going into battle & dying to keep Eretz Yisroel & its inhabitants safe from bloodthirsty terrorists that would kill every Jew if they had the chance.

Israel has been at war since 1948, over 75 years straight. Every few years the war gets hotter.

Should American Jews (or gentiles) go on vacation when America is at war (Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.)?

This is an individual issue and a Rov should be asked. There cannot be a generalized answer. Stress, mental health, shalom bayis are all factors. Yet, there is never a ” vacation” from learning Torah or Shemiras Hamizvot. My wife needed to go, b’gazunt. I walk this talk and especially now during the 3 weeks chose to increase my commitments to Torah and Mitzvot. There is no time to waste. There are no vation time for those fighting the war nor the hostages……Nuff said

Should Jews go on vacation while Eretz Yisrael is ruled by goyim and non-frum Jews, and Torah scholars are a persecuted minority?

Also remember we get to take a vacation every week, no to mention yuntuf and especially Hol ha-Moed.

First, ask YOURSELF if YOU are comfortable. If not and you are in EY, perhaps consider spending a portion of your vacation volunteering in some venue whose regular workers have been called up for reserve duty. In the U.S., take a portion of what you had budgeted for a vacation and donate it to mosdos that are supporting those from the North who have been forced to leave their homes for over 6 months with no end in sight. While your LRP can be a helpful sounding board, its less a matter of halacha and more an issue of your personal ethics, hashkafah and comfort levels.

Basically we are talking about chareidim in Israel who do not serve, but go on vacations.
Should they go? Those people absolutely NOT. Let them help their brethren anyway they can, even if it means only some menial desk job.
American Jews are in a totally different category – other than sending TONS of charity to Israel, what else can they do?

As someone living in EY, please daven, learn and give tsedaka for our safety. Go on vacation. And be noseh b’ol chaveiro. Teach your kids this important lesson. Be part of the solution.

On the other hand, bnei yeshiva in EY… If your counterparts are not getting vacation from the war, should likely continue to keep their sedarim, at least two a day. Take some breaks here and there, but taking a vacation because you have an exemption for learning, when those who don’t have the exemption are risking their life and limb… It’s just not yashar.

The garbage that passes as Jewish music is so bad that I don’t listen to it even when everything is peaceful.
PS UJM said it best, Israel was in a state of war since 1948, sometimes more so sometimes less so.

UJM’s logic is the logic of a person who wants an excuse
to NOT HELP our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael.

(Even before 1948, Muslims persecuted Jews for 1.400 years.)

We MUST HELP our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael!

Do not listen to the voice of the Satan, which says that
nothing unusual is happening, which falsely implies
that there is no need to help our brothers in Eretz Yisrael.

Square: ujm didn’t present a logical argument. ujm simply pointed out a fact and asked a question.

WHATS wrong with vacation during war.? The 0ppisite is true….the israeli population is exhausted from living in fear all year round since the war began.
Yes in Jerusalem or Bnei Brak they do not see war every day but every jew is nervous for the next day , and now with the new law drafting yeshiva bucharim to the army puts a major stress on Israeli citizens…Go away for a few days and get your koyches ready for choydesh elul and we all should daven and say Tehilim for our soldiers who are fighting to ensure that we live safely..

See masechta Sotah on listening to music after the churban. Obviously there is a meilah to being miserable before geulah but are we so holy in this dor that this means anything?

Serious question, are you saying Avinu Malkienu after davening l’chol in your Shul? If so how long does that last?

    #2302445

Maybe Israel should time wars for bein hazmanim so that bachurim could lead the troops with their true Torah attitude and not miss classes.

QUESTION: “Should Jews Go on Vacation while Israel is at War?”

    ===========================================

If we want to discuss this question correctly,
then we must recognize 3 different categories:

[1] Category 1 is those who live in Eretz Yisrael, and suffer because of the war.

[2] Category 2 is those who live in the exile [galut], but suffer from serious troubles.

[3] Category 3 is those who live in the exile [galut], in comfort and prosperity.

Which of the 3 categories does the original question refer to?

The answer for Category 1 is not the same as the answer for Category 2.
The answer for Category 2 is not the same as the answer for Category 3.
