The cause of the shidduch crisis (defined as there being more available girls than boys* in the Litvishe yeshivish oilam) is obvious.
We put pressure on the boys to get married (not allowing them to wear a tallis until married, giving them gelila**) but we don’t do anything of the sort with the girls.
So obviously, we need to put more pressure on the girls to even things out. So we should make all girls wear shaitels by age 22 whether or not they got married. This will motivate them to get married before age 22 to avoid embarrassment.
My question is, should we allow lace shaitels or not? Do they look realistic enough that they won’t be embarrassed enough to get married, or not?

November 27, 2021 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #2034825GadolhadorahParticipantDo you guys get some sick satisfaction by trying to make a joke about pressuring young men and women to marry when they are either not ready or might not have good options at a particular age?? I’m certain the solution to your non-existent crisis is to create more stress. Somehow, I get the feeling that those who post this nareshkeit are themselves incapable of sustaining a positive relationship.
November 27, 2021 8:17 pm at 8:17 pm #2034827🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantSee, and I figured it was someone making fun of all the people pressuring them.

So you agree with me! (And you’re probably kidding when you say non-existent).

November 27, 2021 8:49 pm at 8:49 pm #2034842ujmParticipantThe Chasidim figured out the solution. Copy their shidduch system.

They don’t allow lace shaitels, so they’re you go..
Finally someone actually answered my question! Shkoyach.
Anyone else with an actual answer please, instead of all the leitzonus?
November 27, 2021 9:53 pm at 9:53 pm #2034854☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantLace sheitels are what Jews should be concerned about in 2021?
Yes, but not as concerned as about what random people post on the CR. That’s an even bigger crisis in 2021.
November 27, 2021 11:20 pm at 11:20 pm #2034900Yserbius123ParticipantThat’s quite literally a Modest Proposal.
I think only women should be posting here as men shouldn’t have a say as to what is and what isn’t tzniyus as long as it’s within Shulchan Aruch bounds.

This isn’t about tznius. I’m talking about unmarried (but hopefully with this proposal, soon to married) girls.
Strange how all this time, I took you for a man.

no discussionNovember 28, 2021 12:30 am at 12:30 am #2034938Lemai_ZucParticipantSheitels aint kosher, and im not just talking about for sephardim. Better to go with your actual hair than to go out with the product of A”Z. How far the tzibbur has fallen in this case….
November 28, 2021 1:09 am at 1:09 am #2034950AviraDeArahParticipantI’ve noticed that yabia writes the same response to a multitude of issues that he considers unimportant. Pray tell, what do you consider important for jews to be discussing in 2021? Was it different in 2020, or 2017? Is it, and I’m going out on a limb here, political issues the results of which aren’t in our range of bechirah?
November 28, 2021 7:09 am at 7:09 am #2035000☕️coffee addictParticipant“Better to go with your actual hair than to go out with the product of A”Z.”
That’s only Indian hair sheitels
November 28, 2021 11:07 am at 11:07 am #2035063GadolhadorahParticipant“Pray tell, what do you consider important for jews to be discussing in 2021”
On a list of the top issues for yidden in 2021, lace sheitels are lists as no. 317. Perhaps consider how yiddeshe mosdos and individual families should be planning now to accommodate what may be several years of covid-related overhang w/o shutting down daily lives. How about addressing chronic poverty in segments of the tzibur, making our voices heard in many cities and towns with new “woke” political leadership, working with daas torah to find “safe” ways of introducing limited use of computers and internet access, promoting decentralization of frum life into new communities to address the skyrocketing cost of housing, education etc. in the established frum communities in NY/NJ areas, etc. etc. etc.
Lace sheitels are not on anyone’s radar screen but for a few untalented, immature and boring trolls.November 28, 2021 11:16 am at 11:16 am #2035083Yabia OmerParticipantI am going to write what a multitude of rabbis (European, no less) mentioned as being important communal needs in their writings:
The poor, the sick, widows, burial needs, etc.None of them mentioned lace sheitels or the length (or presence at all) of peyos.
November 28, 2021 12:41 pm at 12:41 pm #2035100AviraDeArahParticipantThose are communal needs; but most of the “writings* of rabbis are about halacha. Actually, very few seforim discuss the needs of the rabbi’s own community or what he did to solve problems. Your screename-sake rav ovadia wrote thousands of teshuvos about halacha, not political issues or how to fix poverty.
Why am i not surprised that yabia and gadol’s list includes almost exclusively that which is outside the range of bechirah and instead the domain of hashgocha?
November 28, 2021 12:42 pm at 12:42 pm #2035103AviraDeArahParticipantNot to say there shouldn’t be discussion of those non-bechira issues that we can’t “really” fix (only Hashem decides who has money). Rav yehoshua leib started an orphanage, gedolei yisroel were very active in distributing tzedaka…all very big mitzvos, but they also realized that they are unable to fix the world and that the one thing we can fix is mitzvah observance
November 28, 2021 12:51 pm at 12:51 pm #2035135philosopherParticipantYO, there were lace shaitlech with natural flowing hair down to a woman’s waist in di alte heim?
November 28, 2021 12:57 pm at 12:57 pm #2035174Avram in MDParticipantYabia Omer and Gadolhadorah,
I think you both are taking this thread way too seriously, and I bet you’re both well aware of that. Just in case not, a reminder that this is the CR, and DY’s thread is just some motzei Shabbos humor to go with the pizza. If you think poverty or some other weighty issue needs more discussion here, donate one of your Ashkenazim are awful or Trumpkopf is awful posts to the cause.
November 28, 2021 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #2035182ujmParticipantAvram: It doesn’t pas to have a goyishe hand-food like pizza for a heilige melave malka.
November 28, 2021 2:45 pm at 2:45 pm #2035185Lemai_ZucParticipantPretty much all wigs come from India, even the ones that say they come from Brazil or Europe. Also a sheitel isn’t a proper kisui rosh, how is it modest to replace your hair with more hair? Especially lace sheitels, they’re most of the time prettier than a woman’s actual hair
November 28, 2021 2:57 pm at 2:57 pm #2035227n0mesorahParticipantDear Avira,
It seems like your missing a piece of the puzzle. Their writings indicate that most of their time was dedicated to communal needs and not communal observance.

November 28, 2021 3:11 pm at 3:11 pm #2035275☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPretty much all wigs come from India
No, the pretty ones come from Europe. The Indian wigs are ugly.
Anyhow, you didn’t answer my question. If need be, we can avoid the A”Z issue by having the girls grow their own hair long and them to make shaitels.
November 28, 2021 3:11 pm at 3:11 pm #2035276☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPray tell, what do you consider important for jews to be discussing in 2021?
The inferiority of Ashkenazim.
November 28, 2021 4:48 pm at 4:48 pm #2035300GadolhadorahParticipant“Pray tell, what do you consider important for jews to be discussing in 2021?”
Anything but shidduch crisis, Trump, UJM’s misogyny cloaked as daas torah, my vegetarian chulent recipes, funky Covid cures and the politically tone deaf nareshkeit of both political parties.
November 29, 2021 10:10 am at 10:10 am #2035563Avram in MDParticipantujm,
“It doesn’t pas to have a goyishe hand-food like pizza for a heilige melave malka.”
1. Pizza is a Jewish food. The Italians yielded it and swaths of Brooklyn to us as part of the Armistice of Mulberry and Grand Streets almost 70 years ago. That’s why Italians snootily say there wasn’t pizza in Italy.
2. When you are 40 we can teach you the secrets of why heilige Yidden eat pizza together with french fries amidst the deafening screeches of children on motzei Shabbos, though it may be too weighty for this forum.November 29, 2021 10:17 am at 10:17 am #2035573yehudis21ParticipantDY, that was actually quite clever, and I enjoyed it 🙂
I think lace shaitels are actually so realistic and usually so much more attractive than a woman’s own natural hair, that you’ll have lines of teenage girls lining up to get their hands on them. They won’t even want husbands anymore, they’ll just want those gorgeous wigs.November 29, 2021 8:09 pm at 8:09 pm #2035793NechomahParticipantYehudis, you’re probably right, but who will they get to pay for those precious locks????? Since Daddy already has to supply Mommy with a new one each year or so as styles change, will he start providing them for his daughters as well?
November 30, 2021 3:50 pm at 3:50 pm #2036335yehudis21ParticipantOf course. It’s just a small cost compared to their daughter’s $35k seminary tuition.
November 30, 2021 4:59 pm at 4:59 pm #2036341🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantAnd that’s an outright lie. But hey, nothing like a good put down.
