Of course every time we see a headline on YWN or hear of a sick gadol we are concerned about them and about ourselves we wish that all of them would have a complete refuah shleimah

Let me just ask you this are there a lot more Yeshivas than there were just 20 years ago?

Are there a lot more Yeshiva Bochurim than there were 20 years ago?

Then it also stands to reason that there are more Roshei Yeshivos and Gedolim then their used to be, i don’t think we have to think that the sky is falling because a Gadol get sick certainly we should Daven for them and say Tehillim for them but lets not assume the world is coming to an end.

Most Gedolim tend to be in poor health. That is because most Gedolim tend to be advanced in age, and human who are advanced in age tend to be in poor health, relative to younger people.

An analogy. In the near future (based on life expectancy for someone her age), Queen Elizabeth will become ill and die. It is quite predictable (even if once upon a time it was considered treason to speculate about the monarch’s mortality). However her subjects will make a big thing out of being concerned and mourning her, not because it is shocking, but because that is part of respect.

Everyone knows that almost all Gedolim are going to expire in the foreseeable future. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make a big fuss. They are our royalty, and we should act appropriately.

well without going overboard, i do think that the sudden rash of gedolim getting sick is significant.

They are suffering as a kaparah….. for our indiscretions.

The passing of a Tzaddiq atones for us.

Not if the yeshivos themselves are growing and if the yeshivos have the same number of RY as they did in the past.

After all, we have many more people in New York than we had 200 years ago, but we still only have one governor and two US Senators.

I’ve heard many interesting definitions of a “Gadol”, but being in charge of a Yeshiva def. ranks as one of the most superficial ones.

A godol doesn’t have a definition. You know one when you see one.

Rav Elyashev holds no official position. Not as a Rov and not as a Rosh Yeshiva.
