<strongA>We Will Dance Again
To the tune of Abie Rotenberg’s “A man from Vilna”They gathered that night, a year since the storm,
When joy turned to darkness, and terror took form.
The shul felt so different, the light seemed so dim,
Haunted by last year’s Simchas Torah, a memory grim. But the Torah was waiting, its scroll still unfurled,
A promise unbroken in a shattered world.
And though we were fewer, with sorrow so near,
We lifted it high; we’re not going anywhere. We danced round and round in circles, as if the world had done no wrong,
From evening until morning, filling up the shul with song.
Though the echoes of that terror still linger in the air,
We hold on to the Torah, and choose joy over fear. The voices grew louder, though broken, yet strong,
Singing ancient words that have endured so long.
For the Torah is timeless, its message so clear,
Again we rise from ashes, with all we hold dear. The children were watching, the next in the line,
To carry the Torah throughout all of time.
The adults whispered, “We won’t forget all we lost,
But our future is bright, no matter the cost.”We danced round and round in circles, as if the world had done no wrong,
From evening until morning, filling up the shul with song.
Though the echoes of that terror still linger in the air,
We hold on to the Torah, and choose joy over fear. They wanted to break us, to bury our joy,
Everything about us they tried to destroy.
They wanted to crush us, to drown us in tears,
But we are a people who rise through the years. For a life of Torah is the highest reply,
To those who would silence, to those who deny.
To rejoice with the Torah is the choice that we make,
To dance through the pain; a Yid does not break. We danced round and round in circles, as if the world had done no wrong,
From evening until morning, filling up the shul with song.
Though the echoes of that terror still linger in the air,
We hold on to the Torah, and choose joy over fear. The Torah is life, it’s joy and it’s light,
It carries us forward through the darkest night.
We cling to its wisdom, we hold it so tight,
And through it, we’ll build a future so bright. We danced round and round in circles, as if the world had done no wrong,
From evening until morning, filling up the shul with song.
We cling to the Torah, though our path feels fraught and long,
For only it can bring us, a future proud and strong. -
