I do round. But who really cares ?
March 22, 2013 6:25 pm at 6:25 pm #940839Torah613TorahParticipantWhy ask if you don’t care?
We do elliptical. Since perfect circles don’t exist.
March 22, 2013 6:32 pm at 6:32 pm #940840pou_bearMemberAhhh the perfectionist.
I never said I don’t care.
March 22, 2013 6:59 pm at 6:59 pm #940841writersoulParticipantBut they’re not elliptical either, they’re sort of roundy-bendy-with-little-jaggedy-burnt-edge-thingies.
I happen to love those, and we use them for the seder and lechem mishneh. But for matza and cream cheese sandwiches, give me square. Then we use the leftover round matzah to snack on Friday night at the meal. Mmmmmmmmmmm….
March 22, 2013 7:05 pm at 7:05 pm #940842rebdonielMemberI prefer the flavor of square matzah and it is also less burnt.

March 24, 2013 4:43 pm at 4:43 pm #940846Torah613TorahParticipantA circle is really just a square with sides n going to infinity. A square is really just a circle with 4 sides. Isn’t that useful to know?
March 24, 2013 8:36 pm at 8:36 pm #940847OneOfManyParticipantThat is a theoretical way to arrive at a circle. It is most definitely not the mathematical definition of a circle.
March 24, 2013 9:42 pm at 9:42 pm #940848playtimeMemberis it true that they found very old pairs of round tefilin?
March 24, 2013 10:24 pm at 10:24 pm #940849147ParticipantI am Mekayem all 3 Shitos:- Round Hand Baked Matzo; Square Machine Baked Matzo to dip in my coffee; Elliptical Beitzo on my Seder plate.
This way I keep everyone happy, and there are no Machlokes Chas veSholom.
March 24, 2013 11:07 pm at 11:07 pm #940851Torah613TorahParticipantOOM – yep, it is theoretical; I didn’t say it was the definition.
March 25, 2013 1:14 am at 1:14 am #940852R.T.ParticipantWolfishMusings — “My tefillin are square.”
Very good. My tefillin are cubic. Makes me stand out.
talmud — “is it true that they found very old pairs of round tefilin?” Yes, I also saw that, but they were really cylindrical.
The matza is close to circle shaped. But the Kiddush Becher is technically an octagonal prism, over a cylindrical base.
The Beitza is approximately ellipsoidal.
