Eclipse, we are too alike. I lost my voice a week ago and am coughing. I think it is bronchitis. I am in Miami so am reluctant to call my doc for antibiotics.

Maybe we ARE related!!What does Miami have against antibiotics?

Aries – I don’t like commenting on medical issues without seeing them, but bronchitis is usually a virus, where antibiotics do more harm than good. Refuah Shelaima!

Health, are you a doctor? My bronchitis was never viral, and neither was anyone else’s whom I know. We all had to go on antibiotics, and I am not one who loves to take medicine, so I didn’t do it without being absolutely sure it was needed.

Feel better, Aries AND Eclipse. When I had bronchitis two years ago (I actually had it twice in one season), I literally could not sleep, because the coughing was so serious it choked me every time I lay down. Antibiotics cleared it up both times, but I was foolish and didn’t want to see the doctor at first “for just a stupid cough.” My family got on my case, I made an appointment, and my medically conservative doc, IMMEDIATELY put me on something strong for the bronchitis, and a powerful cough supressant for my non-productive cough (THAT only helped a little).

Aries, I also don’t get the correlation between Miami and antibiotics.

OOmis – I’m not a doc, but I’m a student in Health Sciences, not necessarily becoming a physician. I keep posting this over & over again.

I just looked it up again, most cases of Acute Bronchitis don’t need antibiotics!

I don’t live in Miami, I winter in Miami and my docs are in NY. This would be the third year I got bronchitis and both times earlier I needed antibiotics to knock it out and an inhaler. Last year the first round of normal anti-biotics didn’t do the job and I needed a second round of very strong antibiotics. I believe the anti-biotics, plus the inhaler, plus other meds that I was taking through me into a RA situation with my knees Pesach time where my knees would not bend. I was in agony.

The bronchitis causes me severe back pain, since the coughing pulls on my spine. Sometimes my spine snaps. It is also draining my Koach. My regular doctor for sure will not prescribe for me over the phone, so I will have to call a friend for a favor. I thought I would wait it out to be sure, but I am in the pool every day teaching my grandkids to swim and I am so exhausted. But B”H the grandkids are making tremendous progress.

Actually that’s the most information you have ever given. You only say “over and over” that you are a student and in the health field but never what in. Either way, I respect you as long as you don’t smoke. (woops, wrong thread)

GMT – I don’t want to get too personal on a public blog. But if you want to tell everybody everything about yourself -go ahead. You can start with the basics -Name, address, home & cell #’s, email addresses. And when you finish with that, I’ll give you a list of what you can add!

    #736635

Why are you jumping on me? You seemed impatient that Oomis didn’t know what you do, claiming you have ‘posted it over & over’. I was just telling you that you have NOT posted it over and over so please don’t be impatient. That’s all. I just prefer to hear what you have to say without the little digs into the people you are talking to. I find it painful. But rest assured I will not point it out in the future. I’m sorry you misunderstood.

Responding to Health’s response to you(I need to get a life) that if he answers any more personally he may as well just give out contact info.,I was trying to say there’s a level before getting that personal but is still too personal which is share half youur life story like Eclipse does which made me think of that funny religion Episcopalian and thus,my answer which you didn’t get because it wasn’t clear, and this post is so extremely clear!!(I think this cough medicine I finally took has some VITA-MEATA-VEGAMIN IN IT.

    Good night,guardmytongue!

Can you please guard MY tongue, too?

Health, it might be the URI that triggers or accompanies the bronchitis and drowns the bronchial tubes with phlegm, etc. Maybe that is what the anti-biotics is for so the inhaler can work to clear the bronchitis.

    #736640

eclipse – as usual, you say exactly what I mean. I too should get a life and let everyone worry about defending themselves. I picked that screen name to warn myself to remember to watch my words. This was my second slip up and I think I need to be proactive. Thanks for being you.

“I keep posting this over & over again”

That does not make you a doctor, necessarily, and perhaps I have never seen those specific posts. I don’t read everything on this site. That being said, the fact that you read something, does not make it the prevailing conventional wisdom, nor does it mean that it is the case for most people.

I have never met anyone suffering from bronchitis who did not require at least one and sometimes a double course of antibiotics, as the condition can last a very LONG time. I was never put on an inhaler, thankfully, but my daughter was. we still both had to take a Z-pack, and i ended up on something even stronger after that.

Aries & OOmis, – I don’t know what the “conventional” wisdom is but I do know how to practice medicine. Antibiotics are reserved for bacterial infections. Most cases of Acute Bronchitis are due to viral infections. This is why I preempted my comments with -“I don’t like commenting on medical issues without seeing them,”.

I don’t want to second guess your PCP -maybe you were from the rare cases of bacterial infectious causes, so he/she gave you antibiotics. A practioner has to feel your illness is caused by bacteria before they give antibiotics -this can be done clinically or by testing.

Hey Candy’s Mom – I used to “borrow” my daughter’s screen name too, until I got my own. I can totally relate to having teenage daughters who multitask! (actually our daughters are in the same class but we won’t start that conversation here. others don’t like when this is turned into a chat room between just a few ppl. even though i see it happening often enough)

Refuah Shelama to Eclipse. Let’s not judge why ppl get sick. Let’s just all be careful with our words and deeds.
