Ok tzaddik and Golfer this is for you, what does the oilem think of wearing straw hats during the summer?

Straw? Where are you on a farm? I’m, pretty sure some of those hats are silk. At least the one my father wore.
I think they look very comfortable.
Personally, I’d much rather wear a straw hat on a hot summer day.
But I wear a sheitel.
Which is a whole different story.
(And not particularly comfortable either.)

I’m pretty sure straw hats are made of straw or hemp (a fiber similar to linen).
Was your father a magician? Did he wear a top hat? I think top hats are silk.

and i bet many shtreimel-wearers wouldn’t mind a straw hat in the heat of summer. whew, do i feel bad sometimes for our chasidish brothers in those fur hats…!!
No it wasn’t a top hat, I’m very ignorant on the subject. Hearing straw made me think of this farm hat I once had on Purim. It only works if it has that little feather.

Some are paper.
The likelihood of them being paper depends on what region it is manufactured in. Asian hats are likely to be made of paper (toyo or shantung) while American (North or South) hats are likely straw.

IIRC, Kelmers used to wear straw hats.
