The establishment GOP is more than happy for the bad press Trump is getting because they get to hide how bad there doing as a party. There’s a rot within the leadership of the GOP; that’s the symptom. They don’t fight like the Democrats do in order to win elections. Now the establishment is ready to crown Desantis as the next presidential candidate. I’m not convinced he can win in a general election. Obama crushed the GOP both times when he faced supposed centrists like Romney and McCain. Remember it was the tea party movement that flipped the house in 2010, not the old establishment GOP. We can’t trust anything that Gingrich Karl Rove and McConnell pushes. The party needs a great reset and this was due way before Trump. If the establishment GOP wants a trump desantis civil war which isn’t helpful for anyone in the gop I’m ready to register Dem and try to fight the progressive movement from within. The Democrats got smart by pushing Green party out which gave them more votes. Republicans need to do the same to libertarians if they want to win more elections.

The core of the Republicans from the Reagan though Bushes era is still intact. They have some ideological disagreements with Trump’s MAGA group (particularly on foreign affairs and immigration), but that’s about it. Given Russian and Chinese imperialism, the foreign policy differences may shrink, and given that the labor shortage is seriously causing inflation that objections to immigrants may become moot. The core Republican belief in capitalism and social moderation are shared by the MAGA faction as well as the traditional Republican mainstream.

The political question is to what extent the Republican party can keep the MAGA group with Trump, and more importantly, can the Democrats reabsorb those who they called the “deplorables” (the Biden/moderates probably can get them back, whereas the WOKE/progressives probably won’t be able to).

I’ve said it before, just vote blue. Accelerate this inevitable process and put the reigns of control in the lefts hands. Voting Republican is doing nothing but staving off the inevitable.

Once everyone is miserable under a one party secular liberal government then we can have a hard reset.

The thing is the Reagan revolution was a populist movement vs the Bush/Rockefeller elite types. We need both but we need policies and but to respond to everything with “but it’s socialism” when we’re already a half socialist country. Democrats are smart. The promise big and give you a little to make it look like they’re helping. Republicans just try to obstruct.

I am a registered Gop since the day I voted in the 80s, Donald Trump was a Dem, then a GOP then Independent then a GOP, He believes in himself nothing more, if he got a massive stroke tomorrow and could not speak I would not shed a tear

    Lakewhut,

I read your post and I am trying to understand what exactly is the systemic rot within the GOP?
    They won back the House.
They still have many voters, fought very hard campaigns, and came very close to winning many races.
The GOP candidate in NY did much better than anyone expected.

Reb E because you are a Democrat and like Republicans who cave to Democrats.

Jackk the rot is a disconnect lack of awareness of how to appeal to a national electorate. Trump won because he ran as something different than the old republicans who don’t do anything.

“I am a democrat and respect some Republicans as John Kasich, Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney and Adam Kitzinger.“

Did you respect them before trump? Liz Cheney? The one who’s father brought us into Iraq? That ran haliburton?

    I highly doubt it

The US needs a thoughtful, serious conservative political party. That surely isn’t the GOP.

I do not understand what you mean.
Also, many of the candidate’s that lost were Trump picks.
As everyone knows, Jack K has been publicizing the systemic rot in the GOP for a long time. I am just trying to figure what GOP supporters now mean by ‘systemic rot’.
Losing elections is not ‘systemic rot’.

“The US needs a thoughtful, serious conservative political party. That surely isn’t the GOP.”

Impossible, the only way to get an education that us accepted in this country is to attend left wing indoctrination center aka “college”. High level academics would consider someone with right wing thinking to be dissident if not racist/fascist.

All of western civ in Ivy League schools is being introduced as a history of racism if taught at all.

So where is conservative intelligence supposed to come from if it’s not taught in high level academia? Now we are stuck with populist leaders which are only reactionary and honestly becoming less and less intelligent with articulating their stances.

I respect those Republican not because they cave to Democrats but because they are honorable.
They stay with their conservative doctrines and stand up to Trump when he puts democracy in danger.

Their conservative doctrine was going against trump? Wouldn’t that mean he was being a liberal?

Secondly, did you respect manchin for standing up to Biden before he caved?
