1. Is “kk” a short form of “ok”? How so?
2. Does “kkk” mean you REALLY get it?
3. Does “ya” take that much more time to type than “yes”?
4. Is “he he” the new “ha ha”?
5. Does 🙂 mean “we’ve been texting long enough, let’s just end this dumb conversation already”? (this is the only one I DO use)
Looking forward to a new clarity!
September 13, 2013 3:30 am at 3:30 am #974845Luna LovegoodParticipantA friend of mine once explained to me the “kk” thing.
very often(at least in teenager circles) girls will say “kay” instead of “okay” which spawned the whole “kk” thing. My fried said that the number of “k”s is “proportional” to how annoyed the person is with u. 1 “k” is kind of like giving an abrupt “okay” and means the person isn’t interested in continuing a long conversation with you while “kk” is kind like the happy, chirpy “okay” and means the person u are texting isn’t annoyed with u.
I know it doesn’t make a lot of sense but when do teenage girls ever make sense.
September 13, 2013 3:35 am at 3:35 am #974846Burnt SteakParticipant“Yo bro dank munch there”
Took me some time to figure what the person meant.
September 13, 2013 3:56 am at 3:56 am #974847uniqueMember1. its not a short version. its a different expression. personally, i don’t just text “kk”. i say that expression out loud too. its just a “cuter” way of saying “okay”, not faster.
2. “kkk” means you don’t really have patience for the person you’re corresponding with anymore. you’re like brushing them off…”kkkkk”
3. ya it takes much quicker to write ya than yes.
4. “he he” means you kinda just chuckled inside. you’re not guffawing with laughter like “HAHAHAHAHA” but you emitted a humor-ful sound from your throat.
5. “:)” does mean what you guessed it did. but it usually ends the conversation in a pleasant, not awkward way. not like ending off with one person saying a random line and then BAM- no more txting. it’s like..okay this is over 🙂
hope you gained some clarity. im quite the expert on txting lingo so feel free to ask more questions:)
September 13, 2013 4:11 am at 4:11 am #974848eclipseMemberthanks everyone!
and isn’t it funny when people use the word memory thing and the text comes out crazy-sounding?

September 13, 2013 4:23 am at 4:23 am #974851uniqueMembereclipse: what’s the word memory thing?
September 13, 2013 4:31 am at 4:31 am #974852eclipseMemberunique: Like let’s say I want to text someone, “I’m cooking now”. So if I had that thing turned on, as soon as I type “c” it will give me other words I’ve typed previously starting with “c” (maybe only if one pauses, not sure)….So if I don’t pay attention, my friend might get a text that says “I’m cool-aid now” you get it?

I have been posting here from my phone the last few weeks and the word memory and predict thing is messing up my posts that’s why there’s lots of typos and poor grammar lately. I occasionally edit and try to fix it but it’s just too much effort from a phone.
September 13, 2013 5:16 am at 5:16 am #974854eclipseMemberPredict!! That’s what it’s called.
WIY: I’m an editor and didn’t notice mistakes,so I guess you fixed ’em.
September 13, 2013 3:51 pm at 3:51 pm #974855writersoulParticipantHonestly, I never knew that stuff about “kk” until now. I’ve seen it all the time but I didn’t know it had any different connotations depending on the number of “k”s…. I’ll have to start inspecting all of my chats and texts to see whether my friends have been brushing me off without my suspecting it…
(kidding- I really don’t care)
The smiley face, as I’m sure you guys have picked up, I do use for when I find things cute or funny. Though it’s funny, because until you wrote it out here, I hadn’t realized that I’ve also used it as a conversation ender. I just never realized it, it just turns out that way.
September 13, 2013 4:08 pm at 4:08 pm #974856Bookworm120ParticipantI know someone who says “eeyup” instead of “yup.” I think that’s a MLPFiM thing, but I don’t know.
I only use smileys to say I find something entertaining.

dank isn’t weed but many people who use weed use it as an adjective to indicate good quality.

September 15, 2013 1:38 pm at 1:38 pm #974866SaysMeMemberwell, there were some new definitions here for me! And i know i’ve been using some of those differently (wrong????) but so has just abt e/o i text! So seriously, dont go analyze ur texts according to these ‘definitions’.
Kk is another ok
kkk i’d think was a typo 🙂
hehe is a chuckle, yes. Or when i said hehehe outloud after reading thheir text :). Not laughed, said heheheh. But i do that 🙂
yes takes 1.5x as long as ya! Its easier with t9. Anyone else remember when it had to be spelled properly as yeah? Yeah.
A 🙂 is me smiling! Sometimes just reacting with a smile n nothing more to say on said topic. Sometimes in conjuction with words. Often as a tone indicator showing s/thing is being said in jest, with a smile, happily etc when it can potentially be read otherwise.
