To those of you who befriend those of us who are too tall, too short, too wide, too skinny, too eager, too standoffish, too wired, too tired, too Brooklyny, too OOTy, too perfect, too imperfect… thank you for appreciating us for who we are, and for acknowledging that we are Hashem’s creations even with our flagrant imperfections. It can be overwhelming enough juggling our own self-criticism, never mind having to endure it from other sources… so, thanks for being there for us.

I don’t think we get too much credit on befriending the wide, short, lanky, tall etc., though. Sometimes, I wonder if some posters would think differently of others if they would’ve met them in person.

Being anonymous has pros and cons.

Here, where no one knows people in person, they just get to experience everyone’s personality in an unbiased way, everyone likes each other. Even if people disagree, I doubt they DON’T like each other, they just disagree and they accept that and move on. But out in the real world all the stereotypes and assumptions and personality/family/frumkeit related biases and social expectations create huge walls that are really just so invisible and meaningless if we would just wish to see through them. Everyone should realize that we’re all Jews here, we’re all family; we should act like it… At least the coffee room makes a pretty good attempt 🙂
