CS: I never realized how few Chabad shalichim are based around Lakewood. There are 3 listed for Jackson, Toms River and Freehold. When you go to the “Chabad Locator” map on google search it appears to show literally dozens clustered around northern NJ and the Philly suburbs but a total Chabad desert around Lakewood. Rumor has it that the BG crowd has zoned out non-Litvish mosdos.

GHadorah: Mainstream Chasidim are all over Lakewood and still rapidly growing. And they are non-Litvish mosdos.

GHadorah: Also, the purpose a Chabad House and Shliach serves, would essentially be unnecessary in a heavily frum area.

What’s mainstream chasidim? The Alter Rebbe succeeded Rav Dov Ber ben Avraham of Mezeritch, who was a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov. The Alter Rebbe’s father was close to the Besh”t as well. If anything, Satmar is late to the party.

1: Basically referring to (you can use a different term if you’d like) 95+% of the Chasidish world that isn’t Chabad. Let’s be honest; the non-Chabad Chasidim are basically a different category than Lubavitchers. When people refer to “Chasidish” people, they are generally referring to the Chasidim who you are more likely to find in Williamsburg, Boro Park, New Square and Meah Shearim than in Crown Heights.

The Alter Rebbe didn’t “succeed” the Mezritcher Maggid. He had his school of thought based on his understanding of what he was mekabel from the Maggid. There were other schools of thought.

    1) Besh”t
    2) Mezritch
    3) Lizensk
    4) Lublin
    5) Yismach Moshe (Satmar descends from there).

I wasn’t in Lakewood. But I appreciated the achdus and ahavas Yisrael (which was why it was posted on a Chabad news site) and wanted to bring it to your attention

Reportedly, a chusid was explaining to the Gerer Rebbe that he davens in a certain shul for baalei teshuva, although he is not one of them … Rebbe gib him a luk and asked “Why not?”.

So, surely, a (good) chabad shaliach can find potential baalei teshuva even in Toms River .. maybe there are people who were turned off by one derech, but will feel better in another.

Does Chabad of Lakewood do kiruv?

I know of a Chabad in Lakewood that does kiruv for OTD youth.
Shabbos seudos, shiurim, and often giving them a place to sleep (many are kicked out of home).

Unfortunately, many were very smart bochurim who dropped out yeshivos for various reasons.
