I dayhiked the Devil’s Path on sunday.
25 miles. 9000 feet up; 9000 feet down. Climbs 6 mountains. Large parts are scrambling, and most is rough trail over large rocks and roots.
For perspective, consider hiking to the bottom of the grand canyon and back up in one day. Twice. And it being scramble and rough trail instead of easy walking.
17 hours. 4:30 AM to 9:15 PM. Started and finished by headlamp light. Shachris and mincha on trail. Slept for 3 hours at the trailhead before starting.
We attempted this trail last year and only made it over 3 peaks before we quit (for a total of like 18 miles by the time we got out the bailout trail). Last year we hadn’t slept at all.
So how did we finish? It’s all about the indomitable spirit. V’yesh gorsim abominable spirit. V’yesh gorsim abdominal spirit.
DAT sugarloaf. sounds chill bro. how many brews?
yah, we started at indian head so sugarloaf was the third one. last year we started at westkill and bailed after plateau.
We had a bbq and beer afterwards back by the car, by headlamp.
