The reality of Galus is that we have so many iterations of yiddishkeit, so many conflicting opinions of what or who is daas torah, of what is proper hashkafa/what is improper, who is right and who is wrong. You can’t have psak halacha because everyone has their own idea of who can paskin for them. Galus messed everything up. IN GALUS THERE IS NO ROOM FOR IDEOLOGIES. No one knows what’s right or wrong so let everyone “be” until mashiach comes. Mashiach will paskin from A to Z, hashkafa, halacha. Soup to Nuts.January 21, 2016 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm #1133192
No more Bais Hillel and Bais Shammai? Both are Daas Torah.January 21, 2016 8:17 pm at 8:17 pm #1133193

Shekerm: “IN GALUS THERE IS NO ROOM FOR IDEOLOGIES” exactly. I agree with you 100%. Every person according to their daas torah, with no yid bashing another person’s daas torah.January 21, 2016 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #1133195
Joseph: isn’t bais hillel off the table for after mashiach comes? we flip to beis shamai, end of story.January 21, 2016 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #1133196golferParticipant
At least according to the OP.
He says you can’t have psak halacha.
So you’re right- that’s the way to go!

They may not be perfect, but the Einei Haeidah know much better than we do. If someone is Somech on a Bar Samcha, then OK, but Chazal said “Aseh L’cha Rav”.January 21, 2016 9:12 pm at 9:12 pm #1133198–Participant

I was listening to a tape of Reb Moshe zt’l, the rov who introduced Reb Moshe said:
Daas torah means I can’t bring a clear raaya for this but this is what I think. With Reb Moshe there is no concept of daas torah because he can bring a raaya le’halacha for anything.January 22, 2016 6:02 am at 6:02 am #1133201charliehallParticipant
We modern orthodox don’t believe in Daas Torah because Rav Soloveitchik z’tz’l told us not to.

Sheker, so far as I know there is no source for that statement. Certainly iut cannot be according to its simple meaning. I did hear that in the time of Mashiach we will be able to live according to middat hadin alone.January 22, 2016 7:16 am at 7:16 am #1133203Sam2Participant

Can one’s da’as Torah tell him that there is no da’as Torah? If it does, then it’s clearly not da’as Torah…

No. Nat at all. Because if he didn’t have daas Torah when he said that he doesn’t have daas Torah then he does have daas Torah.
So then he really doesn’t have daas Torah. So then he really does have daas Torah. So then he really doesn’t have daas Torah. So then he really does have daas Torah. So then he really doesn’t have daas Torah. So then he really <<OUT OF RIBBON>>January 22, 2016 3:33 pm at 3:33 pm #1133212

C’mon, Sam. You really think VaYakhel Moshe made up that we’re going to follow Bais Shammai after Moshiach, and that the concept didn’t predate him? If it took you years to find that, perhaps you need to spend some more years looking back further.January 22, 2016 5:54 pm at 5:54 pm #1133215

Why would you think that I would think that? It does go against the grain of the way daas torah is usually interpreted though.January 24, 2016 3:25 am at 3:25 am #1133218
Charlieh: “We modern orthodox don’t believe in Daas Torah because Rav Soloveitchik z’tz’l told us not to.”
If you don’t believe in daas torah, I assume you believe the concept expired, as in not shayach in 2016. Doesn’t asei lecha rav = daas torah?
