    1) Cut-and-paste the drawing into notepad.

    2) Replace all existing backticks with apostrophes (using edit – replace-all).

    3) Copy the image into your clipboard.

    4) Prepare a post by starting a line with a backtick and a period.

    5) Paste the image from your clipboard.

    6) Add a closing backtick after your image.

    7) Post.

    dont have internet-

    Some of the immaginative techniques these ascii artists use and the pictures they come up with are amazing.

    The one above (which “Curious” first tried) is one of them.

    A key instruction is “2) Replace all existing backticks with apostrophes (using edit – replace-all).” – I botched my first “Hand” paste because I forgot this part.

    Curious-

    The opening and closing characters you used are apostrophes, not backticks.

    The backtick is under the tilde (~) on your keyboard.

    asdfghjkl-

    There is nothing “complicated” here – just knowing what tags to put before and after your text to have it format a particular way.

    intellegent-

    For whatever reason, the site software doesn’t display the rest of the page properly after a list is entered (see the lower part of the first page of this thread), so that may be just as well.

    That said, here’s what the site Joseph’s URL pointed to said:

    Ordered list-

    <OL>
    <LI>Take 495 north
    <LI>Cross the 14th Street Bridge
    <LI>Take the Maine Avenue exit
    <LI>Turn left at the first light
    </OL>

    Unordered list, with sublists-

    <UL>
    <LI>Marketing
    <UL>
    <LI>Andy Hodges
    <LI>Trey Gregory
    </UL>
    <LI>Engineering
    <UL>
    <LI>Karen Joslin
    <LI>Sheila Malone
    <LI>Karl Heinz
    </UL>
    </UL>

    The UL tag is for Unordered List and must be closed.

    The OL tag is for Ordered List and must be closed.

    The LI tag is for List Items and (aparently) doesn’t need to be closed.

    Curious-

    I think the answer to your question is self-evident at this point. Enjoy your new position as site illustrator.

    feivel-

    You seem to be trying the same kind of thing that “mw13” and I did, with the same lack of success. The site software seems to be pretty good at picking off “unauthorized” attribute tags. If anybody can figure out how to get around the font, color, etc. restrictions I’d be interested.

    ICOT, you proud?

    You were a good teacher. The credit is yours…

    #630483

    intellegent-

    The “OL” tags specify that the “LI” (list item) coming up should make an ordered list, such as:

    1. Jones

    2. Robinson

    3. Smith

    The “UL” tags specify that the “LI” (list item) coming up should make an unordered list, such as:

    Curious-

    In this case the “talmid” has zoomed past the “rebbe”.

    The jersey you did for “Moderator 72” is quite good, and well beyond my capabilities.

    Proud? yes, and (maybe) just a little scared 🙂

    I can only try,

    Thanks!

    (Sorry, the comment that i posted asking for someone to explain it again was after you gave the first explanation…)

    BTW, I see that you did the lists and nothing happened to the rest of the thread. Should I try it or risk ruining the thread?

    #630487

    intellegent-

    My haskama isn’t needed – I don’t have ownership of this thread (or any other), but if your asking for my two-cents, go for it.

    When teaching shop, it’s understood that some tasks will be botched and leave a mess, but as long as a student doesn’t run a finger thru a bandsaw or router-table, no problem – that’s part of the learning process.

    My intent in starting this thread was to localize the mess, and give people (including me) a chance to “potchke around”.

    The text on my earlier post with the HTML tags was preceded and followed by backticks, and the lists on my later post were manually typed, so that doesn’t prove anything re: “messing up” the rest of the page.

    As “curious”, “Charlie Brown” and I demonstrated via our repeated efforts, perseverance pays off.
