7. Low Fat = Low Mood: Why Your Brain Needs Healthy Fats
For years, we were told that eating fat would make us fat or cause heart problems. That’s why many people switched to low-fat diets. But now we know that cutting out fat can actually harm your brain and mental health.
Here’s why:
Your Brain Is Mostly Fat
Your brain is made up of about 60% fat. It needs certain kinds of fat to work properly—especially omega-3 fatty acids, which help with thinking, memory, and mood. If you’re not eating enough healthy fats, your brain doesn’t get the building blocks it needs to function well.
Low Fat Can Lead to Depression and Anxiety
Many studies have found that people who eat very low-fat diets are more likely to feel depressed or anxious. Why? Because fats help produce important mood-regulating chemicals in the brain, like serotonin and dopamine.
Without enough fat, your brain can’t make these feel-good chemicals efficiently, which may lead to:
Mood swings
Brain fog
Irritability
Fatigue
Trouble focusing

Low fat isn’t the cause of rampant mental illnesses in the US., Most of us eat way too much fat.August 19, 2025 2:54 pm at 2:54 pm #2439761funnyboneParticipantIt’s called plagiarism if you quote a study and don’t give it credit. It’s called lunacy to expect people to believe something that you write without quoting a reliable source!

August 19, 2025 9:31 pm at 9:31 pm #2439990none2.0ParticipantHaimy, sometimes in _some_ people low fat is the cause. Like vegans or low fat people
They have higher anxiety and insomnia and stress
Fat cushions and heals those things

August 24, 2025 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #2441232none2.0ParticipantFacts and science is knowledge not wisdom.
Learn from wisdomAugust 24, 2025 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #2441246none2.0ParticipantAlso I back everything up with science also but if you want a source the internet is open for you. Just don’t trip over the propaganda on your way. Ok?
August 26, 2025 10:03 pm at 10:03 pm #2441701SQUARE_ROOTParticipantRabbi Lazer Brody has publicly stated that
the root cause of most mental health issues
is the lack of emunah and bitachon. If you truly trust in HaShem at all times,
and always believe “Gam Zu LeTovah”,
then much of your anxiety and unhappiness
should vanish.Another root cause of most mental health issues
is spending too much time remembering the past
and spending too much time thinking about the future.August 28, 2025 11:52 am at 11:52 am #2442429none2.0ParticipantErm i would say your correct but only in very specific circumstances this is actually a very dangerous belief system because anything that goes wrong is essentially “your fault”
Not a healthy mindset. -
