Anyone out there every heard of it? guess not….November 2, 2010 4:10 pm at 4:10 pm #767537
Rabbi Shafier. He gives great inspiring Shiurim (mostly geared to men)November 2, 2010 4:42 pm at 4:42 pm #767538
what is it about? what type of person is he- meaning am i going to be hearing from a MO rabbi or a chassidishe rebbe type?November 2, 2010 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm #767539
He is a Talmid of Rav Heinoch Leibowitz Zatzal of Yeshivas Chofetz Chaim. I heard many of his shiurim his Hashkafos are mainstream yeshivish-normal. He’s very normal. Listen to a shiur for a few minutes you will see.
He understands a lot about human psychology and makes very important points in all his shiurim. Its different than anything I have listened to and I will tell you he will give you a new perspective on many areas of Yiddishkiet.November 2, 2010 4:53 pm at 4:53 pm #767540
different topics, he’s in the middle on the left of the center point. not overly intellectual type speeches.November 2, 2010 5:12 pm at 5:12 pm #767541
The best part is that the bumper stickers are magnets, not stickers. So when you buy a new car, you can take the magnet with you.November 2, 2010 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm #767542
“he’s in the middle on the left of the center point”
Does this mean he is 75% away from the extreme right?November 2, 2010 5:23 pm at 5:23 pm #767543
Yeah what he says is deep but presented in a very down to earth way.November 2, 2010 5:31 pm at 5:31 pm #767544
I dont think he is that far to the left somewhere in the 40’s.November 2, 2010 7:21 pm at 7:21 pm #767545
I don’t think he is left at all?
What does he say that makes you think that?November 2, 2010 7:25 pm at 7:25 pm #767546
op said what type of person is he- meaning am i going to be hearing from a MO rabbi or a chassidishe rebbe type?
I said “he’s in the middle on the left of the center point” that doesnt make him a leftist.
I havent followed him in several years so I dont have exact examples but thats just my feeling. I dont think its insulting or something most people would disagree with.November 2, 2010 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm #767547
Left of whom?November 2, 2010 7:30 pm at 7:30 pm #767548
The Rabbi is normal. Hes not extreme. Stop with this left right business. Hes very down the middle. As far as I can tell he is also pro college and working so maybe that puts him to the left or down the middle. Now im confused whats the middle? Can that be the middle?November 2, 2010 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm #767549
guy asked a question, I answered. deal with it 🙂.November 2, 2010 7:49 pm at 7:49 pm #767550
which “guy” asked a question? more like girl……please don’t confuse that againNovember 2, 2010 7:55 pm at 7:55 pm #767551
Rabbi Shafier is a wonderful, normal down to earth person. A Talmid Chacham, a talmid muvhak of R’Henoch Lebowitz Z’l whose hashkafos he imparts. I remember him from yeshiva as one of the “older bachurim”, also always approachable and willing to discuss anything with you. He was also smart enough and honest enough to know when he didnt have an answer and take you to the one of the Rabbeim or even the Rosh Yeshiva if necessary.November 2, 2010 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm #767552
arc- I thought coke was a girl? I sure am confusedNovember 2, 2010 8:11 pm at 8:11 pm #767553
guy can mean girl as well. ah who am I kidding it was an assumption.November 2, 2010 8:18 pm at 8:18 pm #767554
I wonder if peoples genders should be mentioned under their user ids so people have a clue….November 2, 2010 8:19 pm at 8:19 pm #767555
I love his shiurim. He really has a fresh perspective that I dont get from some other speakers out there. He doesnt say the same stuff you hear everywhere else.November 2, 2010 8:48 pm at 8:48 pm #767556
WIY. Thats because there is only one Chofetz Chaim (I’m including all CC branches under this one umbrella).November 2, 2010 11:22 pm at 11:22 pm #767559
There is no such thing as middle. Only extremesNovember 3, 2010 12:39 am at 12:39 am #767560
How ironic.November 3, 2010 1:10 am at 1:10 am #767561
maybe I am a right wing fanatic?November 3, 2010 2:45 am at 2:45 am #767562kapustaParticipant
The way I remember it, (haven’t listened to any in a while), he seemed (as other people said) pretty “middle”. I think it was more like bringing something into every day life, not like other speakers “we need to improve in such and such area” style. He has stories and anecdotes that he adds in which makes it very enjoyable.
I definitely recommend it.November 3, 2010 1:54 pm at 1:54 pm #767563
thanks guys! I am hooked….November 3, 2010 2:58 pm at 2:58 pm #767564A Woman Outside BrooklynParticipant
It isn’t necessarily that Rabbi Shafier is expounding any particular point of direction. His hashkofos clearly follow those of his yeshiva, RSA, and it’s blessed Rosh Yeshiva zt”l.
The Shmuz was originally started to provide a yeshivish type learning environment for yeshiva bochurim who are now part of the workforce. And I will not elaborate on whether or not yeshiva guys should be working or not, because that point is irrevelant here.
The shiurim are excellent, very listenable. My personal favorite, and I certainly haven’t listened to all of them, is the one about genevah.November 3, 2010 9:57 pm at 9:57 pm #767565
good.jew is right. You have to stand by what you believe in. People in the middle are just ridiculous.November 4, 2010 1:29 am at 1:29 am #767566
I think that this is the first time that Popa ever agreed with me!December 3, 2010 4:05 pm at 4:05 pm #767567
Just wanna let you all know that Rabbi Shafier just put out a new book. It is the most amazing combination of deep, philosophy yet not a boring book that you just can’t wait to put down. It is very interesting and easy to read! It’s a must to own! BPT- you for sure need to get your hands on it….December 5, 2010 6:14 am at 6:14 am #767568

if the shmuz was any good why would they have to advertise so heavily ? its litteraly being shoved down our throats, and eyes and ears…December 9, 2010 11:57 pm at 11:57 pm #767577
if the shmuz was any good why would they have to advertise so heavily ? its litteraly being shoved down our throats, and eyes and ears…
A. Because they are not selling a product, they are providing a free service.
B. Successful companies are the one’s who advertise heavily.
C. Most of the advertisement is consumer’s advertising for them. Like the bumper magnets. (I have one!)December 10, 2010 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm #767578
first of all, thanks you popa for clarifying those few concepts. I think that the small companies are the ones that have no money or resources to advertise heavily. I would also like to add that once you start reading the book and listening to the cd’s you will notice that they are good for everyone and can be applied to everyone in their own way. all you have to do is read one chapter and you will see what a change it will make in your life! try it, it can’t hurt!December 10, 2010 5:20 pm at 5:20 pm #767579dunnoMember
I downloaded a bunch of shiurim from the shmuz podcast for my iPod. He is a really good, practical speaker. Now where can I get my bumper sticker??April 12, 2011 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #767580
