The Chida says that there are three differences between Chametz and matzah. The first one is that bread is “sheker” (false). If you take a loaf of bread and push it down, there is a lot of air in it taking up room. By matzah it is “emes” (truth) if you push it down it just cracks. The second difference is that bread rises, which is a sign of arrogance. Matzah is the opposite, it doesn’t rise. The third difference is that bread represents laziness. Bread takes its time, it slowly rises. Matzah on the other hand is done very fast and must be done in under eighteen minutes.
I heard from one on my Rebbeim that the Chasam Sofer says a brilliant Gematria (numerical value calculation): The Gematria of Chametz is 138 and the Gematria of matzah is 135, when you subtract it you get three which is the number of differences between Chametz and matzah! Price. Seemingly that was even in Chazal’s time, just in the opposite. After all it is lechem oni 🙂April 3, 2023 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm #2179783KuvultParticipantThe Matzah with the longest Mesorah is soft so it does not crack.
April 4, 2023 2:37 am at 2:37 am #2179798Menachem ShmeiParticipantAnother difference (from the Lubavitcher Rebbe):
חמץ and מצה both share the same letters, aside from the ה and ח
When someone is haughty (חמץ), he can’t do teshuva because he always blames any wrongdoings on others and he never feels guilty.
The ח only has an opening on the bottom – the only path such a person will go is downward ר”ל.When someone is humble (מצה), he can always do teshuva, for he is quick to recognize his wrongdoings.
This is symbolized by the ה which has an opening on top to get out of our wrongs and get closer to Hashem. This Pesach, let’s try to be matzos. Lowering our ישות will give us an opening to the greatest heights.

April 4, 2023 8:51 am at 8:51 am #2179892Reb EliezerParticipantChametz is forbidden bemashu, with no measurement is explained by the GRA as the difference between chametz and matzoh is the difference between a ches and a heh, a mashehu the opening allowing the baal teshuva to enter. Matzoh is anivus and chametz is gaiva blown up from nothing.
April 4, 2023 11:53 am at 11:53 am #2179905Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantdifference #1 teachers you being smart and honest is better the opposite:
you can earn a good living selling high-priced matzah for known shiur instead of selling cheap popcorn in large packages that really contain less of it.April 4, 2023 11:54 am at 11:54 am #2179908takahmamashParticipantKuvult beat me to it.
If I was to be a piece of matzah, would I want to me machine matzah or hand shmura? Something to muse about over our seder.

1 price
2 digestion, matzah has no fiber leading to conspitation.
3 utilization, for people who dont eat gebroks matza has a much lower utilization use.April 4, 2023 2:43 pm at 2:43 pm #2180026Menachem ShmeiParticipanttakahmamash,
This is indeed a deeply profound question. Thanks for giving me some food for thought (no pun intended).
April 4, 2023 5:57 pm at 5:57 pm #2180072Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantcommon: > utilization, for people who dont eat gebroks matza has a much lower utilization use.
this should be a petach to cancel the gebrocht neder, as your ancestors might not have known that
April 5, 2023 12:21 am at 12:21 am #2180092commonsaychelParticipant@AAQ, alternatively I can manage without eating gerbrokes, just like I manage not drinking cholov akum
April 5, 2023 10:42 am at 10:42 am #2180233Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantcommon, nobody has a tradition chasing cows of their goyishe neighbors for milking. for one, you will get arrested for trespassing and assault. At the same time, Pesach is supposed to be a yomtov when you eat yummy food and have seuda with others.
How was it going during BM? Was your Pesach with matza and maror completely dry? Did you ask people on their gebroks minhagim before registering on the same animal? None of that is mentioned in Gemora as far as I recall. So, if yo would need to cut yor neder when Moschiach come, why not prepare a week early!?
April 24, 2023 4:27 pm at 4:27 pm #2183639ZetruthParticipantWhy are you doing lochon hara against bread now? Lechem has cereals in it, which makes one intelligent and only then one can speak lochon hatov.
April 27, 2023 9:34 am at 9:34 am #2184709CSParticipantHey nothing wrong with ego (bread). In fact after the refinement of sefira, we bring it in the Beis HaMikdash, the only time chometz is brought to the best of my knowledge. But unrefined ego is a different story
April 27, 2023 1:10 pm at 1:10 pm #2184823GadolHadofiParticipantCS,
Ten of the forty loaves brought with a Korbon Todah are chametz.
April 27, 2023 2:32 pm at 2:32 pm #2184904CSParticipantGadolhadofi- thank you. Do you know then what was unique about the shtei halechem brought on shavuos?
April 27, 2023 2:48 pm at 2:48 pm #2184915GadolHadofiParticipantCS,
Not sure what you’re referring to but for one, the two lambs accompanied them. With other offerings, including the Todah, the Mincha was a “side” for the Korbon.
April 27, 2023 3:34 pm at 3:34 pm #2184924CSParticipantGadol hadofi, you mean that by shavuos, the main Korban was bread, and every other time it was on the side?
April 27, 2023 3:58 pm at 3:58 pm #2184945GadolHadofiParticipantCS,
Yes, the special Korbonos brought that day are referred to as “coming with the bread” and the Kohen waves the two lambs sandwiched in between them.
April 27, 2023 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm #2184958CSParticipantGadol hadofi- thanks for the correction👍🏻.
April 27, 2023 5:57 pm at 5:57 pm #2184971GadolHadofiParticipantCS,
You may want to check out “Avodas Hakorbanos”, written by the eldest son-in-law of the Chafetz Chaim, zt”l, over a century ago and recently translated by ArtScroll. In his approbation, the Chafetz Chaim wrote that learning this topic demonstrates that we anticipate the coming of Mashiach.
April 28, 2023 5:47 am at 5:47 am #2185037CSParticipantYes it’s the same reason that we learn hilchos Beis habechira in the 3 weeks
