Many times there’s something we want to say but the proper or most effective word to use simply escapes us. Have no fear, the remedy for that is here! Any time there is something you want to express and it can be something you wanted to write here or elsewhere or something you wanted to actually say in real life but just couldn’t find the proper word, come here and ask and the crowd will help you come up with the right word for next time.

    I will start with something.

I was looking for an English way to say the “Shidduch parsha” the best I could come up with on short notice is the Shidduch situation or Shidduch scene, but I feel there may be a better all encompassing word to use. I present this challenge before or illustrious think tank. Lets see how this goes.

WIY: I’d like to know how to explain “shidduch parsha” in English. Not that I get the opportunity to very often, but it should come in handy sometimes.

Also, I can never remember what to say when someone sneezes. I picked up “bless you” from my non-Jewish former workplace, but that really sounds strange in a frum environment.

Yeah so I guess that makes 2 of us wanting to know how to express Shidduch parsha in English.

As for the sneezing response I think most frum people say gezundheit. Some say Asussa or asisa depending how they pronounce words. That one comes from the gemara. In Yiddiah some say “tzim gezindt” which means to health. I think there’s a few others in Yiddish that some might say.

    Are u a bt?

WIY: Nope I’m as FFB as they come. It’s my Achilles’ heel.

Every major person in my life uses a different term from the ones you listed, and only ‘bless you’ makes sense to me in English.

So this is my brain on sneezing:

    <sneeze>

“Not bless you what are you supposed to say”

    “tzugezimheitissa”

“it’s too late to say it now”

    “quick say bless you”

“mumble wumble hope it sounded like the right thing”

Why would being ffb be an achilles heel?

Oy you have that weird medical condition that you can’t remember what to say when people sneeze.

Yeah its likely because you got used to the bless you thing. Just say gezundteit 100x in a row and call me in the morning lol.

(I’m not licensed to treat this condition)

WIY, lol that was funny. I should really try it. Another option is to ask several people to sneeze, then pick up a sign reading “gezundheit”, it would be a good visual aid.

I meant not remembering what to say when people sneeze is my Achilles’ heel. 🙂

When you are the one doing the sneezing, don’t forget to answer “Amen! Baruch tihyeh” to the person who says… whatever they say

When someone says to you “Bless you”, reply with “Bless you too” or simply “You too”. In text language that would be “U2”.

Gesundheit is fine to say after someone sneezes. Everyone knows that word.

Shidduchim or Shidduch Parsha – dating for purposes of marriage.

LaBriut or even Asi gezunt works if you’re with frum people. Otherwise say bless you.
