Make a FIRM decision. Write it down. Start off slow. Remind yourself every day..

I don’t think it’s a good idea to publicize one’s (own) wrongdoings. It’s a bit of chilul HaShem to do so.

However, since we’re all anonymous here, (no modesty issue) let’s publicize GOOD things we’ve done!

it happens to me all the time. Try to remember the horrible, ampty feeling that you felt last time you did it and you felt so bad about it (hopefully). And just rem that everything is recorded up there….

OK. There’s one thing improper I do thats public knowledge. Quite often. A LOT. WAY TOO MUCH.

    Lounging out in the CR!

Did I overcome that? Well, you decide!

    zk,

Why must it be a chilul Hashem? One’s vice could be overeating, procrastinating, going to sleep too late…

i was also gonna write – posting in the cr. 🙂

    i agree with zeeskite – good idea to post good things we did;

um.. well… i’ll let you know when i think of one. 🙂

This is similar to what was practiced in Navarodok. Each member of a mussar chaburah in turn whould would be subject to the criticisms of their midos by the other members (in America we call these “lemon sessions”). In Communist China. People were encouraged publicly critise themselves ala a 12 step program.

It is important for all of us to know what we are doing wrong and, sometimes, it takes another to point those things out to us but public self-flagilation as proposed by the original poster is unseemly and often has the oposite of the desired effect.

    Raphael Kaufman,

Is there a deleted post that you are referring to?

As ZeesKite mentioned, one is not supposed to publicize Aveiros they’ve done. Raphael’s idea of letting others criticize you sounds good. Let’s start with myself: What impression do I give off here that you find crit-worthy? (other than spelling or grammar)

If you did something dumb (and lets face it we all have) and then learned from it sharing that can give others hope! I mean if I know that someone else had (for example) way too much debt but managed to cut up his credit cards and live for many years without debt, then that can give me hope that I can get out of debt too.

(Actually I cut up my credit card ages ago)

determination, persistence, & praying for Divine assistance.

    Get support, if possible.

    And an accountability partner.
