To those older than me and over the hill…
Does time really fly faster as you get older? I do not think that it’s even possible to go faster than it’s going now, though I’ve been told to brace myself for what will come when further down the road. Is it true? Do years feel like days when you get old?!
as someone way over the hill, I think life is flying but after much deliberation I have decided it comes from two things:
1) we no longer mark our years by grades in school or our kids grades in school so the months and days all seem to run into each other
2) we can look back on a huge lifetime of memories in a flash, giving the false impression that it happened/happens in a flash.
Really, when waiting for events to happen, I feel like it crawls just as slowly as ever.
Yeah, I used to pilot the “time”. At first it was slow. It took roughly about a year to fly a year. Now they upgraded, so the time flies faster. Many more controls, devices, apparatuses, technologies allow to fly faster, faster than the speed of time.
Thank you! I do still have several kids in school (and 2 out) but I see what is starting to happen. In September it was forever until June. then it was summer vacation. Then September again. When I was pregnant it was forever until delivery. forever til they learned to talk. I think there were always these milestones hanging in front of me. Now there are many wonderful things to look forward to (bar mitzvahs, weddings) but they are more sporadic and I feel like the days in between are just days running into each other.
I’m right with you on that, I feel like my life is a lot like that too sometimes. I am also very emotional in many ways so how fast or slow the day feels sometimes has a lot to do with what hurdles I have to climb before I go to bed that night.
Kinnos and selichos used to feel like forever. Now it doesn’t.
Even Yom Kippur is starting to speed up on me.

Time flying is a relative thing. Regarding the same couple of years, when I think of myself it is like a few months but when I think in terms of my kids, one year is forever ago.
Like the next man, fond of alliteration, said:
Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like an apple.
i think i remember learning it in psychology class, i think it has to do with our perception of time as we get older…
Time crawls when you’re waiting on line.
I hope not and I hope moshiach comes before time flies even faster:)
actually time does go faster when you get older because most of us have a greater mass when we get older and therefore, according to the theory of relativity, time goes quicker (I think so)
