Moish, your family is lucky to have you to save them 😀

I do know a lot of non-fakers, but you do have to pick through the fakers. Just realize, that fakers exist in all societies, not just Judaism – you just cannot escape it.

ha goody i think i did. about some faker guy who lied his way through life and then messed it up? i didn’t even mean it to that extent. i meant that they’re just plain old blank, dumb, people (even if they can get a 100 on a test)

i sincerely feel bad for their kids. who knows what i would have done with stupid parents. (i can guarantee you there’s a 95% chance i’d be a druggie… who wouldn’t wanna zone out in that situation??)

No one mentioned the book “Praying with Fire” The Second book just came out also. I’ve read the first one and very inspiring insights are to be found in this book.

maybe cynicism (and having been hit too hard) is what makes a person perceive others as ‘fakers’…

am i cynical?? i never thought i was… you got me thinking here

I said MAYBE… and I never mentioned you, just threw it out there as an open thought. I do not know you well enough to say what exactly you’re all about and what makes you tick.

what i find most effetive is waiting a few min. b4 and then concentrating on the meaning.

random sheilah: is waiting b4 shemoneh esreh considered a hefsek between goal yisroel and shemoneh esreh?

    I am not paskening

I don’t think it’s a hefsek as long as you do not motion, talk or move around. If you are just standing at your place waiting to start, but need a minute to concentrate…

I don’t think so b/c youre allowed to stop in middle of shemoneh esreh to regain your conversation

you can start out by davening, begging Hashem to help you daven properly. It sounds like you do want to, so that’s for real, and it’ll feel good

well said. Start with the basics… but don’t forget your commitment to saying modeh ani.

(Feeling overwhelmed by taking on a few things at once? Now you see why you need to get each small thing down pat before moving on. Creating a good habit is not so bad; get used to saying modeh ani.)

ok, areivim, i didn’t forget. happy? i have been saying it. not like it makes a huge difference.

you’re driving me nuts trying to appeal to my conscience. it really kills me.

moish, you’re not doing this for ME!… I have no more koiyach to argue this point.

oh i know i’m not doing it for you. but i feel like i have you checking up on me. when are report cards? as much as i don’t get an aleph for the teacher, i sure hate to fail…

if you would only know how many times I held myself back from ‘checking on you’… 😉

I’m really not checking, I’m just concerned and reminding you is all 🙂

“as much as i don’t get an aleph for the teacher”- huh?

PS- you’re far from a failing student

ha how would you know if i fail?? course i do – i haven’t opened a gemara in forever. i guess i wouldn’t call it “failing” – more like “incomplete.”

i’m talkin bout failing in my book… and Hashem’s

    #656513

    moish,

a guy who fasted on taanis esther and went to mincha/maariv recently aint no failing student. sorry.

charlie, i didn’t “go” anywhere for mincha/maariv. just by the way. and i’m not sure why i fasted… feels really strange now actually.

areivim, a “C” is worse than an “incomplete” in my opinion.
