What does everyone think of torah codes, you can get an app called Itorahcode that you can enter your name and it tells you if your name is listed in the torah. You can also Google the word torahcodes and a whole list of websites with torah codes come up. It’s funny too note that they have tried it other books such as the New Testament and nothing of the sort came up. Just too mention a few there was one mentioning Obama and Islam, also that at the end of days the Jews will return to Israel and so on. I would be very interested to hear what everyone has to say on the subject.

    1) “Codes” have been found in Moby dick War and Peace among other works.

    2) “Codes” can be found in any string of ranodom letters if you don’t decide beforhand what you are looking for. For example If you spell out the first letters of the names of the months January, February etc… You get jfmamjJASONd. Cleary a secret code to Jason, if your name is Jason they are alluding to you.

It allways struck me that the codes are used to predict facts after they occur. After Obama is elected they found codes alluding to it. ItMAy be impressive if before the election they had looked for Obama and Romney and bad news for Romney his name isnt there.

Or better yet, I’d like to see the codes predict who will win in 2016, it shouldnt be too hard it can probably be broken down to at most say 50 possibilities thats nothing for a computer to run. Have them predict the winner, then we can talk.

Bible codes were debunked 15 years ago. The reference is Maya Bar-Hillel, Dror Bar-Natan, Gil Kalai, and Brendan McKay, “Solving the Bible Code Puzzle”, Statistical Science, Volume 14, Number 2 (1999), 150-173.

Here is a link to the paper:

    (Edited: google it)

Warning: I have a PhD in Biostatistics and *I* found it challenging. However, if you can debunk the debunking, I am sure that the editors of that journal would love to hear from you.

I don’t what you mean by debunked because the chances of finding are like one in a million and they really have come up with some amazing quotes.

I don’t trust scientific papers when dealing with anything controverisal. They use scientific babble to mask the stuff that the are pulling out of their shin daled (see megilla end of third perek).

For example, see the stupidity that passes for science among the global warming cult.

When it comes to finding out if there are secret codes in the Torah, I don’t recommend going to google to find it, unless you know where to look. The fact is that there are indeed codes in the Torah. The reason I know there are codes there, however, is not from statistical tests, but rather great Rabbonim have giving us a glimpse of these codes. (and by the way, this was way before computers).

Now, fyi, as far as “codes” in other written works, l’havdil, you should note that although you might find “codes”, if you were to do statistical tests without a scientist’s personal bias, you will find that the complexity of the codes that have been found in the Torah are by FAR MUCH more complex than simple codes found in a novel, that there’s no comparison whatsoever. However, I would not try find by my own codes in the Torah, since I have no idea of what I’m doing – you would be wise to ask your Rav before attempting to make codes like this.

I definitely would stay away from any codes that do not come from people who are yiras shamayim. There are unfortunately a lot of people among the non-religious that make up all sorts of things not knowing what they’re doing and to meet their own agendas.

    Hope this clarifies. Shana tova.

We believe that everything is hidden in the Torah. So if you want to reverse-engineer to find a Remez to something that happened, great. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not a proof for the Torah’s truth. It’s just a cute Remez. Using them to try and find the future is foolish, though.

Lamud vav, the chances of finding it are one in a million before you look for them.

however once youve found it you can attach significance to it.

For example say i spit out 4 numbers at random. The odds of randomly generating today’s date 10 05 are 1/10,000 Would be pretty cool. However once ive generated any 4 numbers you can attach significane to it, it can be your birthday, your wifes birthday, this year, the year you were born, the year your wife was born, your house number, etc… Once the number is generated it is easy to see what an amazing machine it guessed my uncle’s birthday the odds are 1/10,000. While true, the odds of generating ANY “significant 4 number combination” quite high. If you really grasp and throw in gematrias the odds of generating a “significant” four digit code are certain if you attach the significance once youve found it.

It isnt hard to search the Troah for Obama, Barack, BarackObama BarachHObama etc once he is elected. you will find something if you look for enough stuff as they have and has been found in War an Peace

coffee addict: That’s where Rotzeach Asher Yirtzach comes from. That book is hilarious because it was an intense academic work, and his only working hypothesis at the end is time-traveling aliens. Wut?

to coffe addict: about that book, “bible codes”. What we see here is free-will at play. The author of that book, after extensive study of bible codes, came to the realization that it is impossible that the Torah was written by a human being. Instead of recognizing that the Creat-r gave us the Torah, the author of the book “the bible codes” chose to fool himself into believing that “aliens” wrote it, chas v’shalom. As I heard said: an apikorsus did not become one because he started thinking heretically, rather he became one because at some point he stopped thinking. So, in a similar case, that author stopped thinking when he felt it was convenient for him – such as, well, if you thing there are aliens (for which you have no reason to believe they exist) then who created THOSE aliens? super aliens? well the world, even science now admits, had a beginning, so where did the world come from…? Something can’t come from nothing, obviously there’s a Creat-r.

Another case similar to ours happened with the two scientists that mapped the human genome (human DNA). Both said that it’s impossible it came about accidentally. One said it’s clear proof that there’s a Creat-r, and the other scientist unwilling to admit the truth, said some wacky delusion about aliens, chas v’shalom. So you see, it’s the free will, he can choose to face the truth, or otherwise live in a fantasy as ludicrous as it is in order to feel comfortable to do whatever he likes, instead of recognizing he has a purpose and responsibilities in this world. It is 100% clear to any clear thinking person that these are proofs that the Creat-r exists.
