Dear Reader,
As discussions about a new memorandum with Iran approach, I would like to reflect on the last few years, as we Jews often do through a process of cheshbon hanefesh—self-examination.
From my perspective, the emerging deal appears to be a disaster for both the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Of course, none of us knows the future. We cannot know with certainty what will happen tomorrow. What we can do is look back and honestly evaluate what has happened so far.
I remember very well when Donald Trump was running for president, both the first and second time. Much of the Orthodox Jewish community was strongly supportive of him. Americans often pointed to the economy, while Israelis and many European Jews focused on his policies toward Israel.
What surprised me was how difficult it was to ask even basic questions. Whenever I raised concerns about whether a president could fundamentally change the American economy in four years, or whether Trump’s support for Israel was as strong as many claimed, I often received harsh criticism. At times, it felt as though I had committed a serious sin merely for asking questions.
As time passes, however, the dust settles and people begin to reassess their assumptions.
Today, many of the same people who once defended Trump without reservation now describe him as unpredictable or even reckless.
I was never a supporter of Barack Obama, particularly regarding his policies toward Israel. With Trump, many people seemed unwilling to tolerate criticism. He was presented as the ultimate supporter of the Jewish people, the only person capable of fixing the economy, and the strongest friend Israel could have.
now everyone is saying Trump is a crazy person. ” chochma”
Yes, Obama was not good, with US-economy and against israel ect.
was it the fault of obama or maybe, just maybe the fault of Bush?’?Trump is much more terrible: he shows himself that he is the biggest jewish supporter only Trump can change the Economy, everyone is less supportive (Obama, Bush ect.) and less capable but then he throws Israel under the Bus, Inflation is getting higher. are the prices in USA getting down? not really.
Iran will receive so much money that the war may turn out to have been the greatest gift the regime could have hoped for. Before the war, Iran’s economy was struggling, and there were widespread demonstrations across the country. Had Trump and Netanyahu waited a few more months, perhaps the regime would have collapsed on its own. Instead, the regime may now be able to strengthen its position and boost the economy with the influx of money.
About the “holy” netanyahu. in the past he was treated by the orthodox community like a king, like a navi. there was no questions allowed
please dont get angry: was the killing of Khamenei really the right thing to do? It is also worth asking whether his death contributed to further escalation in the region. Some believe that it played a role in Iran’s decision to close the Strait of Hormuz, creating economic and geopolitical consequences that affected the entire world.many in the jewish orthodox community are very short minded and cannot stand any question that is not the majority opinion.
my opinion is not left nor right. i just like to ask questions, and not to make up my opinion because my neighborAs Trump quotes:
Thank you for your attention to this matter. -
