I love reading through the often spirited debates that take place in the Coffee Room forum. I feel really bothered and uncomfortable, however, when a user twists/respells another user’s username into an insult. It has no purpose other than showing off one’s “creativity” at the expense of another’s feelings, and it is usually far less clever than the author of the insult thinks. It cheapens the debate, hurts feelings, leads to retaliation, and hastens the closing of threads due to acrimony.
If other users agree, perhaps we can suggest to the moderators that any post twisting a member’s username to an insult receives an automatic editing or deletion.
Any thoughts or comments?January 25, 2011 8:36 pm at 8:36 pm #731889
So you’re saying that they should doctor the post?
All kidding aside, I agree, but in context; sometimes it’s clearly meant in a lighthearted way. For example, others have agreed to something I’ve posted, and pointed out that I’m not a “Daas Yochid”.January 25, 2011 8:40 pm at 8:40 pm #731890YW Moderator-80Member
i think that was the name they gave to the original windows operating system till the Jewish inventor left the company:

Now that was mean-spirited. Moderator, can you please delete that? Oh… you’re the moderator. 🙂January 25, 2011 8:50 pm at 8:50 pm #731892YW Moderator-80Member
i dont mean to ignore you avram
the policy remains as is that the moderators will edit or delete what they deem necessary
if you see a particular name twist that bothers you point it out in a post.January 25, 2011 9:13 pm at 9:13 pm #731893Avram in MDParticipant
I thought the DOS comment was pretty funny.

I agree that some of the changes are lighthearted and not insulting. Prime examples are the subtitles under the usernames, which seem almost universally enjoyed.January 25, 2011 10:25 pm at 10:25 pm #731894
The one that you commented on in another thread was over the line. I pointed that out over there as well.January 26, 2011 12:50 am at 12:50 am #731895real-briskerMember
avram – People probaly pick SN that are befit for them. I dont see why if someones comment wouldnt fit with their SN, one cant comment on that.
