Unless Biden isn’t running for a second term (drops out, dies, etc.), the platform debate will be interesting. The “Progressives” (WOKE, very similar in many ways to the German National Socialists of 90 years ago) will want a “D.E.I” platform favoring discrimination for favored groups, and discriminating against those not so favored (such as Jews). They will also want an endorsement of Hamas’s demand for genocide of Jews, including the destruction of Medinat Yisrael. Opposing them will be moderate Democrats (many of them of Jewish descent). If the moderates lose, it means that Jews will be forced to leave the Democratic party (which almost all of the non-frum Jews have piously supported for several generations, and with whom even frum politicians are usually allied). Ever since George Washington’s time (and he personally played a major role in this), anti-Semitism has been preceived as un-American and always had to be done in the shadows with a non-racist cover story – if the “Progressives” win it will the first time in the almost 250 history of the republic that it is acceptable to be an open anti-Semite. We have a lot riding on how this plays out.

Even if the Democratic party does endorse the “D.E.I” platform favoring discrimination for favored groups and an endorsement of Hamas’s demand for genocide of Jews, most secular and liberal Jews will continue to support them anyway.

The debate will consist of the two brain cells Biden still has left trying to eat each other.

If the Dems were smart, they would dispense with debating and adopting a “platform” which only highlights internal divisions within the party and is ignored by the Presidential nominee anyway. Trump disowned the party platform in 2016 and they ditched it entirely in 2020.

smerel” No, they probably won’t. If there is a serious centerist third party (cf: Joe Lieberman) it will gain support for those who can’t tolerate the WOKE agenda. If the Republicans have a platform (and leadership) that is aiming for capturing the political middle, they will have success. Jews only leaned Democrat about 100 years ago, and this could trigger major switches. Note that even Reform Jews are not endorsing genocide of Jews, and denounced Hamas. There is a pending earthquake if the Democrats officially go WOKE and endorse Hamas’s solution to the “Jewish problem”.

There is no republican party. It is Trump’s party and whatever he says becomes the republican stance. If he says that the president can throw out the constitution and commit illegal acts as part of his official duties, then that becomes the Republican party line. That is not an “if” because that is exactly what Trump did after losing the election and is now hoping that 5 member’s (3 of them installed by him and a fourth who has no ethics) of SCOTUS will agree with him.

WOKE has no meaning. It is just a term that right wing republican’s use for whatever they are against.

Now , WOKE is being used to mean Hamas Terrorism which has absolutely zero connection to the Democratic Party. Unbelievable.

jackk: 1. The groups previously identified as WOKE (a.k.a. the “Progressive Caucus” of the Democrats), have endorsed Hamas policy, while you can call it “terrorism”, other countries have used genocide as a tool of policy(including mass murder and rpe), and it seems to be a relatively common method of seizing someone’s territory for your own use. 2. The Supreme Court is not a bunch of political hacks, and they are quite likely going to say that whether electors chosen in states without free elections (opposition parties being banned) should have their votes counted is political and is to be decided by the Congress. 3. The Republican party is a coalition of a MAGA (Trump) faction, and the groups that predate Trump’s joining the Republican party (primarily the Reaganite factions and the former “Tea Party” fiscal conservatives). 4. If a considerable number of persons question the legitimacy of an election, it will collapse the currency and credit almost immediately; an election in which the opposition candidate apparently won, but was banned for political reasons, would collapse the government.

However the platform fight for the Democrats will be a critical issue. Biden is supporting the internationalism that goes back to Kennedy, Truman and Roosevelt (at least post-Pearl Harbor) and that includes support for Ukraine, Taiwan, Israel, South Korea and Philippines – and the Progressive Caucus is clearly anti-Israel and not supportive of a military buildup necessary to oppose the Sino-Russian-Iranian Axis. The platform debate on Hamas will highlight the fault line within the Democrats, and may prove to be a critical turning point, one way or the other, in American (and Jewish) history.

    jack,

You may not have gotten the memo but “WOKE” refers to every insanity that you and your liberal coreligionists currently worship. Like “gender is a social construct”, “all white people are evil”, “gas stoves are destroying the world” and most laughable, “Claudine Gay is qualified and loves Jews”.

How are you going to respond when as usual, your anti-Semitic besties violently protest support of Israel as part of the platform during the convention?

Sorry, the wokes do have a cover story.
The dead babies in Syria. Oops, I meant Gaza.
    And Israel’s illegal occupation.

Last time we were promised such great news, it turned out to be a major disappointment. [the red wave].

    Hadofi,

Woke does have a meaning in the English Language and in none of the meanings does it refer to Hamas ideology.

Using the word woke to mean whatever you want is a tactic. It is used to blindly confuse people into lumping all liberals into the same position.

Inventing a ludicrous position (all white people are evil) adding it to the term woke and then applying it to all liberals may make people feel that their side is logical, but it is not helpful when discussing issues.

I never said that Claudine Gay loves Jews. I said she is not an anti-semite. Just as much as Sally Kornbluth in not an anti-semite.
Will you also call her an ‘anti-semite” and unqualified?

“How are you going to respond when as usual, your anti-Semitic besties violently protest support of Israel as part of the platform during the convention?”

I am going to respond that this tiny, tiny minority are going to be trounced by the majority of the party and by POTUS Biden.

    “Anti-semitic besties” , “liberal coreligionists “. Unbelievable.

I have been a delegate to 6 National Democratic conventions and 24 state conventions.
I can report that rank and file registered Democrats and most candidates neither care nor know what is in The party platform. They support candidates for office NOT a platform that is not read my the rank and file.
Frankly, as a Democrat I don’t care what Tepublicans think of the language in our party’s plata d I pay no attention to the language in their platform.
The US has two nationwide parties that are quite diverse, no one is a card carrying member as people are in other countries. There are no national newspapers that are the voice of a party.
Because I vote candidate and not party, I have split my ticket in more than 45 of the past 50 years.

Jack, latest polls are showing 20% of gen z identify as being LGBTQ+. How many of them do you think for republican? The tiny minority fallacy is trash, radicalization of the left is systemic all the way up to the institutional level.

On Claudine Fake and Gay, if any aspiring doctoral student pulled what she did they would have been pulled from Harvard and you know this.

I suggest you stop watching the view to decide what you think.

    jack,

Hamas-loving, Jew-hating liberals, whether in academia, media, entertainment, BLM or the democRAT party, all proudly self-identify as WOKE”. Our people have always had enemies from without but our worst enemies have always been from within. During the Holocaust, kapos energetically crammed Jews into ghettos, cattle cars, gas chambers and crematoria. Modern day heirs to this shameful legacy, such as the hate-enabling Sally Kornbluth, unfortunately exist.

Passionately defending worthless, anti-Semitic scum like Claudine Gay on YWN? Unbelievable.

No they don’t. Because that has nothing to do with being “WOKE”.

Are Ismaeil Haniya or Hezbollah or the Houthis also “WOKE” in your opinion?

Comparing Sally Kornbluth and Claudine Gay to kapos who energetically crammed Jews into ghettos, cattle cars, gas chambers and crematoria on YWN is even more UNBELIEVABLE.

    jack,

Hamas doesn’t need to call themselves “WOKE” when they have useful WOKE idiots like Claudine and Sally, as well as the quislings who defend them.

Are you going to now protest today’s announcement by StopAntisemitism that your woke girlfriend Rashida Tlaib was awarded “Antisemite of the Year”?
