You can help me help a friend who is manufacturing very fine denim skirts. Can you please share with me what stores in your area would carry a high quality garment like this (which might sale for $90 or more) There are several types of skirts in different colors and also the skirt will be available for maternity use as well. There are no slits in the skirt and it is long.

    Thank you for your help

    LL.

I feel the need to note Denim was invented by a Jew.

Some stores that would carry it whose names I can recall:

Elzee, Unique Boutique, Midwood Fashion outlet, Brenda’s, most places in Flatbush

Stores that would not carry it:

anyplace chassidish, many places in BP

I hope your friend goes out of business very soon. I do not encourage creating a need in our community for 90 dollar denim skirts.

    Popa

In Brooklyn this kind of craziness is rampant. People spend 100’s and $1000s on clothing.

Popa: Don’t judge a woman’s need to feel fashionable and attractive under the constraints of tsniyus.

It’s really hard to be tsiniyus and feel fashionable- so if this is one way to help women feel halachically tsiniyus and good about themselves, please don’t judge them. Even if you happen not to approve of denim skirts or whatever.

And just FYI- there are plenty of denim skirts that are not tight, form fitting or too short.

    To each their own…

i really can’t believe this is happening, but i agree with popa

WIY: Not true. $90 is way too expensive for a skirt imho. But if it’s tznius, and people will wear it instead of less tznius denim skirts (and knowing women’s styles that is a strong possibility) I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

I personally don’t wear denim, but there is nothing essentially wrong with it.

be good: denim is not even that fashionable any more. but you’re right that to each their own.

Is it considered modern for a girl to wear denim?

Popa- you don’t really wish my friend a failed business, do you? I understand your sentiment. I also would not buy any of my five daughters a $90 skirts. But- if they work, and they want this, and the skirt is tznisdik, then it is up to them to decide. This is a chinuck matter.

I just want to know where a manufacturer might show his items, whether it’s in Flatbush or in Phili! in Pittsburgh or in Palestine.in Pomona or in Pasadena.

    Any other recommendations

T613T, if you’re referring to Levi Strauss, he didn’t invent denim.

    be good:

I don’t believe that popa in his statement addressed tznius, nor does it look like he was judging anyone.

It looks like he doesn’t want the standard to require spending exorbitant sums of money if it’s not necessary and hasn’t addressed any of the issues you’re defending.

…at least that’s how I read what’s on the screen.

i think 90 dollars on a skirt is a bit much. is the skirt tznius in length only? ive seen plenty long skirts that are skin tight. to me skin tight is not tznius

I personally wouldn’t pay (or more accurately, my mom wouldn’t pay…) $90 for a skirt. I occasionally wear denim (I have a really cute denim dress) but the skirts tend to be very form fitting, which I’m not sure is that tznius and which really, really, REALLY looks bad on me…

I think it’s the kind of thing Ruthie’s in Monsey might carry.

I thank all this who have posted replies to my request for information. I wasn’t expecting Controversy and opinions but I guess as in many blogs such comments are inevitable. Returning to my original question, Bloggers have been helpful in identifying places who might sell these denim skirts in Flatbush and Monsey

What about Queens and the 5 towns

“Upscale Tznius (Skirts)” would have been great for the contest “What Length”….Oh well!

I would love a tznius denim skirt…but for less than $90 please:)
