As we all know anti semitic incidents have been at an all time high in the USA and around the world the past year. I know we are all comfortable in our wonderful homes and riding in our brand new leased cars and spending cash on great deals. And its very easy to ignore these incidents and dismiss them as some random typical behavior. Can we please open our eyes to what is happening? Death threats to Jewish schools and shuls, windows of shuls being shattered by stones, anti semitic hate speech spoken freely on the streets including by up and rising politicians without being condemned, anti semitic graffiti everywhere and recently in Rego Park Queens with slogans NO JEW ALLOWED! These images arent from Germany in the late 1930s, they are live from the USA, from New York CIty, in 2019 present day! If this happened to any other minority there would have been outrage. Yet we as Jews, the weak defenseless sheep remain silent, do nothing and dont even want to face the reality. The only thing I hear is, Trump! Trump! Yes he will save us. Enough closing your eyes to reality! It never worked in the past! Open your eyes while it is early. These arent the typical anti semitic incidents that we are used to. This is open and growing anti semitism! What do we do?

It’s time for us wake up and accept Hashems wake up call for all of us to do international teshuva. As one loving nation teshuva and beg Hashem to stop the hatred. Nothing just happens by coincidence. Every situation has a direct message from Hashem.

May we all finally wake ourselves up and smell the coffee and face reality.

Its a global issue and not just Trump-related hyperbole here in the U.S. (although its not helping when those arrested by the FBI invoke his symbolism and rhetoric). The biggest concern here in America is the growth of anti-Semitism among younger groups who think they are being supportive of “oppressed” groups but are unwittingly endorsing blatantly anti-Israel/anti-Semitic rhetoric. Just about every “progressive” demonstration or march these days seems to have some obligatory Palestinian rights group or banner regardless of how unrelated the theme of that demonstration or march may be. Its becoming pervasive and must be addressed head-on.

    @1 and @ Joseph
Yes there were times of anti semitism especially by the Holocaust where fdr sent a ship full of Jews back to the German slaughterhouses. And also there was Charles Lindbergh with the famous anti semitic “America first” slogan which Trump proudly adopted and doubled down on even when asked by Jewish organizations repeatedly not to use it. He clearly knew what it stood for which at the time meant to “worry” for America and not get involved for the Jews being murdered in Europe.

Here is a quote from an article- Lindbergh poured particular ire on the Jews. “Jewish groups in this country,” he told the crowd, should realize that in the event of war “they will be among the first to feel its consequences.” Individual Jews, he concluded, presented a unique danger to the United States because of their “large ownership and influence in our motion pictures, our press, our radio and our Government.”

Coincidence Trump rhetoric? And is it also heartwarming to know that Trump reportedly kept a book of the German demons speeches by his bedside to draw influence from?

The point is ya there were cases of hate speech in America by the time of the Holocaust, which I’m not sure is so calming to parallel that with our times. But again this is 2019 where hatred towards groups is not tolerated which makes this worse. But apparently it’s ok if it’s geared towards the weak defenseless Jews. And now you see individuals taking things into their own hands and not just certain political figures riling up crowds and speaking as they wish even though thats something that’s happening as well.
I’m not too sure that there was ever such a volume and frequency of anti semitic attacks in the USA which is why they are considered to be at an all time high.
And with corrupt media brainwashing the young, social media, and such communication these things are spreading like wildfire.

    It used to be legal.
Prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964…..
I’ve seen many a property deed that says no Jews
When my older brother applied to university he was told the Jew Quota was closed (1963)
    Clubs and hotels were restricted.
In the 1800s in many US states only Christians could vote or hold office

I could go on and on.

NO, 2019 is not the highest rate of anti-Semitism in US history, but the media brings it to our attention.

She’al avicha…zikenech v’yomru loch – ask your elders. In the 1930’s, 1940’s, 1950’s in Good Ol’ USA it was not too uncommon to see signs on establishments openly stating “No dogs or jews allowed”! Golf clubs openly excluded Jews from membership! And many land sales contacts stated in the Purchase of Sale Agreement that the land or home must not be re-sold to a Jew perpetually. THIS WAS COMMON, indeed, so common that it was not newsworthy. The rise in incidents today are NEWSWORTHY, hence by definition, uncommon. Agreed, it is disturbing, but we are far more protected today than we were in the Goldene’ Medina of 80 – 100 years ago.

Rebetzin what gives you such a feeling that we are protected. You do know that lehavdil no one could ever imagine such things happen in Germany right? There was a great sense of protection.

And ctlawyer and rebetzin, you are giving specific examples of exclusive facilities that were strict on who they let join which also applied to blacks and other foreigners who weren’t white I’m sure. But it’s more personal when you see these slogans in local parks and college campuses. You don’t even see anything like that today against blacks or other “minorities” who have had an ugly past in America as well. There would have been an uproar. All I’m saying is there is definitely a surge in the world including in the US.

If the recent increase in anti-Semitism has anything to do with Trump, it’s more likely a counter-reaction to his pro-Israel stances, and his close association with many Jews, than with any personal anti-Semitic views.

Lemme guess, you wanted to pose the solution that we all vacate the US to avoid our impending Nazi-doom (as many have before on the CR), but somebody messed it up for you by preemptively pointing out that it’s still worse in every other country on earth.

Aside from the actual neo-Nazi cases like in Pittsburgh, I imagine a lot of the lesser Antisemitism (eg. graffiti, internet) is worsening thanks to Jewish comedians desensitizing everyone to it with their self-deprecating humor.

No Neville my intention wasn’t to make everyone vacate but good guess your so clever. The point is that throughout history the most powerful countries or nations of the time usually had the largest number of Jews living there and always turned on them. Egypt, Persian empire, Rome, Spain, Germany, and so on.

Besides most of Europe is known to have been very racist and very anti semitic nothing had changed. But its surprising when it happens in the land of the free.

Daas- I didn’t say Trump hates Jews although I don’t believe he admires us so much. For example he wasn’t embarrassed to stereotype the Republican Jewish coalition and say to their face that he knows they won’t vote for him cause he doesn’t need their money which they like to use in order to control their politicians. He also knew exactly who he was catering to with the America First slogan and was extremely slow to condemn David Duke and the KKK followers since “he never heard of this fine people”.

It’s also funny how during his political campaign there was a flyer he sent out which “accidentally” featured S.S soldiers instead of U.S soldiers. Many funny coincidences go on and on. But again I’m not saying the surge of anti semitism is on Trump’s orders, but I do think many Yidden are quick to put their full faith in someone who shows a temporary friendly face.

“you are giving specific examples of exclusive facilities that were strict on who they let join which also applied to blacks and other foreigners who weren’t white I’m sure.”

The signs of “No Jews Allowed” were not just outside resorts and hotels, but also in public parks and beaches, plus in the front window of many businesses – stores and eateries.

Photos can be found of signs stating: “Christians Only – Jews Not Allowed”; “No Jews Wanted;” “Jews Not Allowed”; and several examples of “Gentiles Only.”

DO you see these signs equally applied to blacks or foreigners?!

    #1684453

Quotas kept most Jews out of elite universities, corporate jobs, private clubs, and restricted neighborhoods.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recalls that when she graduated from Columbia Law in 1959 at the top of her class, no one would hire her. “So there I was with three strikes against me: Jewish, woman and mother.”

I ask you “writer” if you consider it a “private facility” that infamous town in Mississippi that had prominently displayed a placard at the entrance of the town: No Niggers, No Jews, No Dogs? (Sarah Blacher Cohen, Joanne B. Koch, Shared Stages: Ten American Dramas of Blacks and Jews, SUNY Press, 2007, p.5.)

The biggest self-caused antisemitism (meaning limiting this comment to discussing the antisemitism triggered by Jewish actions) is when Jews try to integrate into non-Jewish society or are otherwise embarrassed to clearly and openly display their Jewishness or aspects thereof.

The biggest preventer of antisemitism is when Jews stick to Jewish places and society and when interacting with non-Jews make sure they’re wearing a big yarmulka so that there’s no mistake that he’s trying to downplay his Jewishness.

im surprised mods allowed the N word. But youre forgetting something. Mississippi and the southern states in general were always know to be extremely racist and anti semitic. Youre also forgetting that there are pretty much no Jews living in those areas. You are also forgetting that these incidents are happening in NYC. Were there also signs of NO DOGS NO JEWS in storefronts on the lower east side back in the day? I know Yidden were threatened to get fired for not working on Shabbos but that rule applied to everyone.

I absolutely agree. And you are right we shouldnt have any interest in joining private clubs or organizations which we have nothing to do with. Not sure why so many examples of that are being brought up. Honestly even College/University is a questionable place for a Yid but what other way to get a degree in todays money draining world.

Joseph-Crown Heights has always been terrorized by the black neighbors I mean thats pretty much inevitable since the surrounding neighborhoods are anything but Jewish. Im talking about shuls being targeted, windows being shattered, and swastikas along with anti Jewish slogans appearing all over the city and in public parks. There have been many cases over the past year.
Hopefully this will stop soon, but again these things always start out slow and seem to be under control so its very easy to ignore them as we’ve always done in the past. Neville, I don’t see an outrage not by yidden, not by political figures and not by anyone else. If this was done against blacks and the N word was painted all over the city there would have been riots by now. There would have been an uproar by politicians how this cannot be tolerated. Al Sharpron would have been organizing road blocks. I’m not saying we should do that, but merely reporting it on media as a by the way kind of thing just doesn’t cut it.

You tell me to give a suggestion. I don’t know exactly what should be done other than at least having community leaders speak out on this to show that it’s not a hefker situation. What I do know is that we as Yidden have to recognize what is happening, and no, most live too comfortably to be able to admit the reality. That’s my main point. Not saying to flock to Israel but even the USA can prove to be a danger.

Would anyone consider any of these occurrences in the world and even here in the U.S warning signs? The Belgian parade caricatures, free and encouraged anti Jewish speech, the rise of Omar? Nancy Pelosi defending her as saying her comments werent anti semitic? Even a very famous (Jewish) talk show host warned of signs of a western holocaust condition CH”V. People are recognizing that what we are seeing is reminiscent of 1930’s Germany. Yes there was always anti semitism, but it is rising and is becoming more open and accepted. This is whats frightening and in our days trends tend to catch on fast.

Omar will not be stopped, and the few who are speaking out are doing it half heartedly as if they are afraid! Types such as her should be taken down as soon as possible before they get a chance to rise up and spread wildfire. She knows that noone will stand up to her, and are actually defending her! This is outrageous. We are seeing swastikas all over our city. Anti semitism everywhere. Is this the writing on the wall?
Before all you smarties jump up to accuse me of scaring everyone to move to Israel, Im not saying thats the solution. But what do we do while we still can? I think we are seeing warning signs. These things start slow and are easy to ignore while they are small occurrences, but thats always how they started. We cant let this get out of control.

There’s even worse antisemitism in Israel. In fact Israel has worse antisemitism than even Europe, which is worse than America. As bad as it’s in the US, that’s not what would scare people to move to Israel. If Americans were to move away because they’re scared, they’d move to Australia.

Joseph i don’t think that’s a good excuse. You can’t compare what happens in Israel to anti semitism in a different land. No matter what in Israel you know that the land belongs to you as promised by Hashem. Noone can rightfully throw you out. And no matter the political views, there is an army that would fight to protect you whether your a tzioni or anti. But in lands that don’t belong to us it is much scarier and on a worse scale. There is noone to protect you in fact those who protect come after you. And there is nothing you can do. It’s actually scary how real this is right now. We are seeing a global rise in anti semitism. Global. Usually there was always a land to escape to whenever we were thrown out. But America is the last land. So what now?

PS. Anti semitism is alive and well in Australia as much as anywhere else.

Joseph we have been thrown out not only from Israel, but also from all other lands. Especially lands which were empires at that time. It’s always the strongest countries which have done that to us. Which is frightening. And again the difference between being forced out of Israel or a foreign land is that at least you know Israel is your land no matter what and it’s the only place in the world that you know belongs to you.

I didn’t say the IDF will save you even thought it may be the case. The point is why would the American army save you if they turn against you and view you as the enemy? Lehavdil elef havdallos the German army was extremely strong and on the way to conquer the world. Did they save the Yidden? Obviously not. If you become the enemy of the country then the whole country turns against you. That’s why I bring up this topic. There are too many things happening and they are slowly getting out of control. People in the street and politicians alike. And they are getting a lot of support.

Back in the 20th century (lets say 80 years ago), pro-Nazi (not “neo-Nazi”, real honest to goodness pro-Hitler “National Socialists”) political groups were reputable, popular and drew broad support. Many American leaders openly supported anti-Semitism. The major universities had restrictive quotas on Jews (today the only quotas are on Asians, plus affirmative action quotas for Blacks that are too small to affect us, since the “white” quota is very liberal). Jews, even secular assimilated Jews, had serious concerns about their safety and security. Orthodox Jews were generally excluded from employment outside the Jewish community, since the standard work week was six days a week, and no one heard of flexible work schedules. And had a few battles gone the other way (e.g Britain surrenders under terms similar to the Germans) there would have been a serious threat of Nazis winning the war.

Today: a Jew can walk around in public anywhere in the country without fear of being attacked because they are a Jew. We can go to any university and enter almost any profession. Shomer Shabbos Jews have held high public office. Open expressions of anti-Semitism are roundly denounced by all political parties, even the Democrats who have a small anti-Semitic wing.

We have forgotten what it is like to be a marginal community, right-less, living on suffrance – Baruch ha-Shem.

So what. That’s a nice thought but it has nothing to do with anti-Semitism or where is safer. Israel has more antisemitism and is less safe than other places.

And the IDF is not more likely to save Yidden than the US Army is. In fact, the IDF already does look at many Yidden as the enemy, tries to forcibly conscript them into their secular anti-Torah melting pot to shmad them into their anti-religious Israeli society. The IDF is less likely to save the Yidden they hate than the US Army is.

Things are more out of control in Israel than in the English speaking countries.
