</p>Micha 4, 8
“And thou, O tower of the flock, the stronghold of the daughter of Żiyyon, to thee shall it come; the former dominion shall come, the kingdom of the daughter of Yerushalayim.”
Malbim
“And you, Migdal Eder (Tower of the Flock): Turning its face toward Mount Zion mentioned earlier, it says to it: You, Mount Zion, who are the tower of this flock—which is the flock of the limping and outcast sheep—you shall at first be like a tower for the flock. Then, you shall become an Ophel, which is a strong fortress.
It explains that this will occur in three stages:
1 First, ‘to you shall it come, the former dominion’—the exiles will begin to gather, and the exile of Judah and Benjamin, who are the ‘daughter of Zion’ that were exiled from Zion during the destruction of the Second Temple, will be gathered to you.
2 Then, ‘the former dominion shall come’—a small government shall arise, which will have a bit of sovereignty and leadership, similar to what Israel had in earlier days before a king reigned over the children of Israel, when they were led by judges.
3 Afterwards, ‘the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem’—they will have a permanent monarchy, which is the kingdom of the Sanhedrin. Then, the King Messiah will reign in a permanent kingdom.
(As it is also explained in Ezekiel, chapters 34:23–24, and 36:24–25, and Amos 9:11), that the kingdom of the Sanhedrin will be revealed gradually. At first, it will only be at the level of a judge, and it will be elevated slowly until the monarchy is for Hashem. “May 27, 2025 2:04 pm at 2:04 pm #2403809SQUARE_ROOTParticipantRabbi Aryeh Kaplan [ZTL ZYA] wrote a book titled:
“THE HANDBOOK OF JEWISH THOUGHT.”In this book, Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan explains that in
the time before the Melech HaMashiach comes,
Jews will have PARTIAL rule over the land of Israel. This seems to agree with the Malbim on Michah,
if I understand it correctly.May 28, 2025 6:51 pm at 6:51 pm #2404383Yaakov Yosef AParticipantלכאורה the abbreviation מלכות ב״ד is short for מלכות בית דוד, not בית דין as you seem to translate it. That לכאורה would be a kvetch to try to apply it to the present מצב… The Malbim passed away in 1879, but Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan passed away in 1983, when one wouldn’t need רוח הקודש to accurately make such a statement… There is a tradition handed down from Rebbe Nachman of Breslev, who passed away in 1810, that there will be a partial return of a large portion of כלל ישראל to ארץ ישראל before משיח, alluded to in the פסוק (Yeshayahu 56, 8) – נאם ה׳ אלקים מקבץ נדחי ישראל עוד אקבץ עליו לנקבציו – Hashem will further gather together (the Jewish People) to those (already) gathered.
May 28, 2025 6:51 pm at 6:51 pm #2404384Yaakov Yosef AParticipantRabbi Aryeh Kaplan was a fascinating and very special Yid, who already was a one-man revolution both in Kiruv, and in making profound Torah ideas accessible in English, before his life was tragically cut short. He was also very much into the works of Rebbe Nachman of Breslev, and was surely aware of that מסורה when he wrote his books. (I believe he may even bring the quote by name somewhere in his many ספרים.)
