Many people have no idea that “all CAPS” constitutes “yelling” and irritates some people. Why does it bother people though? No one is actually “yelling”, and so long as the content of the post is respectful and appropriate, may I ask WHY IT MATTERS? (see, did that hurt anyone’s virtual ears?)

September 23, 2013 8:28 am at 8:28 am #976036jewishfeminist02MemberWHEN A PERSON LITERALLY WRITES EVERY WORD IN CAPITAL LETTERS IT GIVES THE IMPRESSION THAT HE OR SHE IS REALLY DESPERATE FOR ATTENTION. IT ALSO COMES OFF AS MANIC AND/OR HYSTERICAL. IT IS THEREFORE NOT ONLY RUDE BUT SELF-DEFEATING.
This is not the same thing as CAPITALIZED PHRASES within an otherwise normative sentence.

Oh Shreck, Because: last night I posted after midnight and I saw 9/23 I thought in a few hours is 9/24…I’m so “farmished!” I jumped out of bed extra early this morning, thinking the phone guys are coming 8am today but clearly that would be TOMORROW….
September 23, 2013 2:01 pm at 2:01 pm #976038Bookworm120ParticipantI perceive all caps writing as yelling unless it’s in context like “TOMORROW” in Eclipse’s post. I know people (non-business contacts) who tend to write “HELLO?!” if I don’t write back to an email within the amount of time they’d like. (For some, that’s five minutes.) That annoys me a lot. They should know not to disturb me while I’m on the CR!
September 23, 2013 2:28 pm at 2:28 pm #976039oomisParticipantIt is also a little harder on the eyes (at least for me) to read all caps. To emphasize a phrease or word, is fine, though.
September 23, 2013 5:25 pm at 5:25 pm #976040Bookworm120ParticipantI prefer italics, but when that’s not so easy, I tend to put *asterisks* around words I want to emphasize. 🙂
September 23, 2013 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm #976041Oh Shreck!ParticipantHURRAY!!! (oops, that was yelling)
We’ll be having Eclipse for another day (are punctuation marks also considered yelling?) !!!

By the way, did anyone ever not yell the words “Oh Shreck!”?
September 24, 2013 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #976043Oh Shreck!ParticipantOh Shreck! – is my name. Everyone calls me that. Whenever anyone sees me they say that, must be my name. And yes, it’s done mostly by yelling.
