Vote in Jewish Community Heroes Contest

Please vote for my husband, Daniel Aldrich, as there are only three days left to vote in the Jewish Community Heroes contest sponsored by the Federation. The winner will receive $25,000 for their organization and four finalists will receive $1,000. There are only three days left to vote in the Jewish Community Heroes contest.

Our organization, PurJEW, was begun by our family because there are no other families/organizations in our college town interested in helping Jewish students learn more about Torah. That’s right – no Chabad, no Aish, no Ner l’elef, no one!

We are not paid by any outside organization like all of the other college kiruv programs. That means we are beholden to no one and we send the students who become interested in Judaism where they should go to grow further. That also means we pay out of our pockets for every Shabbos meal, Pesach seder, Lunch and Learn and any other program we do. We also help our students pay for Israel trips and Shabbatons if money is an issue. No, we are not rich. My husband is a professor and you can look up his salary on the internet if you want (search Daniel P Aldrich salary and Purdue University). We have made this commitment for almost 15 years, three years in this town. We have hosted well over a thousand people in that time, many have become closer to Judaism or frum and we’ve even made a couple of shidduchim!

You may have read about us in the Hamodia (Jews in Japan column in 2008-9), Mishpacha, Binah Bunch or Sha’ah Tovah. My husband has been involved in the case of the three bochurim in Japan since the beginning.

So when this contest began, one of our friends nominated us. We have asked many people to vote. We are still in danger of dropping out of the top 20. Please help us by voting right now and every 12 hours until Shabbos!!!
